a new supernova just discovered

on friday an astronomer in japan discovered a new supernova in the pinwheel galaxy. this is the closest supernova in a decade and is 21 million light years from earth. Its the result of a massive star at the end of its life literally blowing itself apart leaving behind either a neutron star or a black hole.
