Musicians
Related: About this forumStudios to practice in.
What type, if any practice studios are there in your area? I am curious because here in the Houston area they are generally expensive, hard to find, and limited in the time they are open to use, and somewhat less than sound proof.

(608 posts)Nuci's Space was started following the death of a young musician due to suicide, I believe. It is a non-profit resource center providing counseling and other services and houses very reasonably priced practice rooms with rentals by the hour. In the late 80's thru the mid 90's there were some old refrigerated warehouses off a rail siding which the city had taken over and leased out to local musicians. I was fortunate to participate in some of the best underground jams there. Now all that has been replaced by 'The Classic Center'.
Here is Nuci's website link.

(8,614 posts)started building practice rooms 30 years ago. We had built a mini warehouse and some local groups rented 4 to practice in. This gave us the idea to turn a second warehouse into practice rooms. Concrete filled block walls outside with 4" of acoustical tile, inside walls are 14" thick with 3-2layer 1/2" floated rock a 2" dead air space and 4" of acoustical tile. These walls go all the way to the roof. Lay in ceilings with 4" of fiberglass insulation. Each room has its own AC and a 3hour steel fire door.
I really don't know if there is anything like this anywhere else.

It sounds as if you may be looking to expand. Hopefully the investment made years ago has proved viable.
However, I am sure you know that aspiring musicians generally have about as much disposable income as homeless folk.
I am fortunate to have a full basement and was able to get my hands on some industrial sound deadening material that was scrapped when a company outsourced it's sheet metal turret press work. I think it came from this company.
It may be a cheaper alternative to some of the construction stuff you describe above.

(8,614 posts)our parents wills. We knew about it 20 years ago. I have always wondered about any others. There are a few here in the Houston area, but they supply neither the amenities or the security we do.
Our prices are reasonable, a 15x20 w/20amps of power available is $275 a month, a 20x20 is $350. This includes electricity usage and A/C. We carry insurance on the building, and have insurance for contents available at a reasonable cost.
