(4,856 posts)Love that movie by the way. I just enjoy being a creator and giving something back and maybe effecting a few minds! It is rewarding for me. I don't have them on Apple yet but I may go there through TuneCore soon. I do have a trance single that I wrote under a pseudo name that has over 100,000 you tube views and some Apple sales. Nothing major though. When it gets to a million in a few years I may start making good money on the monetization program. I haven't tried Google Play but I 'll take a look now you mention it. Cheers!

(16,881 posts)Yeah. Giving something back is a positive idea too, I reckon (all musicians, at least when playing live, try to do that, right?).
I'll be interested to observe, naturally, how that supposed 'monetization' system will eventually turn out. Some of us around here could find ourselves, too often, going very hungry for days on end... It's a hand-to-mouth existence. But at least we have hands (and mouths) that can play. More power to you, gwym. Nice sounds.
TuneCore, you say, over there. I'm looking at European and/or UK options...

(4,856 posts)As far as Euro options go, I had my trance single on Ditto UK for a while, that turned out to be a serious waste of time and it took them over a year to take it down after I asked them to well over 10 times. Food for thought. CD baby is still one of the best.

(7,321 posts)I thought I picked up the sounds of a few mandolin licks laid over in the intro and a few other phrases.. was that synthesised, or did you use a mandolin in this piece?

(4,856 posts)It's a real mando. I play everything myself except drums. My drumming sucks. My drum programming is a getting better however. I use a few synths as well. I've been playing about 25 years and write about all kinds of surreal subjects. I enjoy adding abstract perspectives to things...obviously if you've kept up with my Russia comments you realize this. Thanks for listening and also for the support in the anti Russia/new cold war threads. I try to give opposing perspectives to get people talking as I'm no fan of the crowd mentality cheering towards war and villifying a whole people. Peace.

(7,321 posts)I know doing ole timey trad stuff can be kind of boring for singer/song-writers.. I'm madly in love with old mountain music, fiddle tunes mostly but even the old ballads and especially mountain gospels. Which is really ironic since I really hate bible thumping religion. LOL But I really dig the old songs the harmonies send me over the moon.
Isn't it weird to see/read so much knee-jerk anti-russian hate on this site? It blows my mind.

(4,856 posts)when I lived in Athens, Ga. I play mostly original music and a bit of Irish folk so the bluegrass thing worked pretty cool for it. I never learned many gospel songs but I do a pretty good version of "Will the circle be unbroken" on mando and guitar. I just picked up a new 12 string and have been playing a lot of Roger Hodgsen of Supertramp and some good Jackson Browne. Yeah on the Russia thing I too get annoyed by the knee jerk reactions and simplistic way of looking at the situations. I truly believe the world will be better off if all countries including Russia work together and put the Cold War well behind us although it seem the same old characters are trying to put that beast front and center again. I have a song called "Here's to War" on my Soundcloud page that goes through the ridiculousness of war. Cheers again.

(7,321 posts)I think I mentioned to ya a while back that I was born in Atlanta and mostly raised in North Carolina. I hated mountain music then. I hated anything associated with the south, anything associated with Southern mentality and remotely associated with "Hillbilly" culture.
It wasn't until I became reaquainted with it here in the San Francisco Bay area in the 70's when I started playing my first musical instrument which was a mandolin, learning to play by ear off of Kenny Hall recordings after hearing him and a bunch of bay area old timey/blue grass players doing this music in living rooms and then local pubs/festivals etc.
At some point i found a recording by the Grateful Dead with Dave Grisman (I think) and Peter Rowan doing all these great old timey/blue grass stuff. I then got into trad Irish and Scottish music, started playing fiddle, for years. Back into ole time again.. circling back around. There's quite a community of players around here. You've probably heard of Carolina Chocolate Drops?

Two of my favorite currently alive fiddlers Aly Bain, Bruce Molsky here at the Transatlantic sessions (Aly Bain is from Shetland) among Jerry Douglas and Sharon Shannon among others are sitting on this session.

(4,856 posts)great stuff. I actually hadn't heard of the Carolina Chocolate Drops so thanks for the turn on. Good stuff. I dig a bit of fiddle in music. It brings things back to Earth no matter what the type of music. I've always been a big fan of The Waterboys from the UK and another great fiddling band is Gogol Bordello. Both have some electric fiddling going on that takes one up in the stratosphere.
