(12,578 posts)About 15 years ago I read a great story about a Down's Syndrome girl who loved his music and her experience seeing him in concert and meeting him. It was so touching.

(3,528 posts)I was diagnosed over ten years ago. Hearing loss is a secondary symptom. Menieres victims suffer debilitating vertigo that can render them homebound.
I had ear surgery to reduce pressure in my inner ear. While it stopped the vertigo, I lost 95% of my hearing in the left ear. Fortunately, the disease never migrated to my good ear. I use "crossover" hearing aids when I am in social situations that are more comfortable in talking with people on my deaf side.
Menieres struck astronaut Alan Sheppard after he piloted America's first short sub-orbital flight. He was unable to pilot future missions because of the risk of vertigo. After having an endolymhatic shunt placed in his ear (same surgery I had), he was returned to active flight duty and landed on the moon in a late Apollo mission. Sheppard did not lose hearing in his experience.
