(11,233 posts)I could find this version on Spotify to add to the 5-6 other versions.
I really want this one with him on acoustic only in drop D.
Looked all over after your post here.
Thanks for sharing. Gonna text this to myself at least.

(11,233 posts)I will give that story in the AM. I gotta get this with my others. I play it solo acoustic and need this without Clapton and the electric versions I got.
Thanks again, this is sweet.
Cheers

(72,843 posts)I never thought to drop the E.
Might have to tune one of my guitars to this!
Either way, I play it differently that what Steve is doing here.

(11,233 posts)I finger pick with the drop D on the 6th string Really gives it a cool bottom. I think Steve does too, in the video, watching him playthe G chord. Been exploring open tuning of late. Opens up a new world. Some Jason Isbell and Springsteen acoustic. Even Foo Fighters acoustic of Everlong.
I definitely have to sing “Can’t find my way home” an Octave lower than Steve, but it works.

(72,843 posts)One of my guitars (a Takamine) is tuned to Am7. Low to high, CACGCE. Jimmy Page used it on song like Bron Yr Aur & Tangerine. Maybe on 4 Sticks, too. Another is in DADGAD.
One of my 12 strings is in Dm & another in D. Mostly for stuff with slide.
Funny story for you. My BiL (since deceased) played a little guitar. One day several years ago he's in my rec room & takes the Takamine off the wall. I tell him he should grab the Martin instead.
He Saud "Oh, is this super expensive?" I said no, the Martin is the expensive one, and added "It's just that you can't play chords on that one."
He gets done playing a few songs and asks "What do you do with that guitar then?"
I took it off the wall and played it. Yes, I was playing chords.
He said "I thought you couldn't play chords on that guitar." I replied "That's not what I said. I said YOU can't play chords on it!"
I am a Taylor freak. Just bought an 814 last week. With 8 total now. Martins are also great. My brother sent me a meme with a “guy + one guitar and the equal sign 🟰, pointing to a guy with a guitar with lots of girls”
Below that was a “guy + a guitar and the equal 🟰 sign pointing to the guy with lots of guitars and a dog, no girls”. (So true)
Isbell does a song “St Peter’s Autograph”
Tuned. D G D G B D..
Just strumming that open is so sweet, you could just strum that and memorize a crowd.
I am not rich, with a total of 13 guitars, (sucks restringing em all) just investing my daughter’s inheritance. Beats the hell outta trump coins.
That’s what I tell her, meanwhile I can at least enjoy that money I saved for her my whole life before I go.
With lots of guitars and a dog. No girls.
My biggest fear when shit hits the fan and it all goes to hell, I can survive with the gifts offered from massive forests around me, where the hell will I get strings???😱
Cheers to ya, chord that Martin!!! Pick till ya drop.

(72,843 posts)7 acoustics, 7 electrics.
No issues with my wife. I spent gig money for every piece of gear except for one replacement 12 string. I has a Martin with a factory defect and they wouldn't honor the warranty.
I was a multikeyboardist in the bands I played around 1,900 gigs in. So, I had plenty of money for gear. I probably spent only a bit over 60% of the mmoney made on gear, despite a full keys rig, recording gear, my bass & amps.
My wife got a Buick.

(11,233 posts)Toys. Boys gotta have toys. I forgot to count the acoustic base and one electric, PA’s, Mic’s Monitors and Amps and stomp boxes.
Quit Gigging a few years back. I just play to my dog and myself anymore.
Hope some one helps my daughter know the value of all of it.
I just want Bob Taylor to send me a Koa, tobacco sunburst piece of wood autographed and have it made into a box for ashes. He owes me that much.
Hope all your strings last long.
Enjoyed sharing some guitar talk.
Cheers.

(72,843 posts)A long while back. About 18 years ago, after >30 years.
I traveled extensively for my job, and at 51, I couldn't manage both schedules anymore.
I go to the occasional open mic deal, more to support others than for myself, though I do enjoy doing 2 or 3 tunes.
Went to one Sunday. Did "Undun" by the Guess Who, "Just Like Heaven" by The Cure, and "I Saw The Light" by Rundgren. Just me and a 12 string.

(11,233 posts)I have it in my head to do a few open mics. We got one Dog Friendly bar with awesome local brews that do an open once a month. May try that, if my old riddled Brian can remember lyrics.
Sounds like you have had a great experience with music. Lots of time doing it all. With much success. It’s a young man’s game on the road. My brother is the famous one. His band “Hot Smokin Brass” was Jackie Wilson’s band for 4 years, traveled extensively. He played lead. I was playing sailer then, missed all the fun.
They played lots of Music by Chicago, the good early stuff, Tower of Power, Blood Sweat and Tears and bad ass funk music. Really great 4 piece brass, with Keys, bass, guitar and one hell of a drummer.
When not with Jackie they toured and opened for Mothers Finest some.
He has been in many many bands since. Just recently given bands up.
Wish we lived closer. I could have my own Clapton when doing Can’t Find my Way Home. 😉. He is laying down the Les Paul’s and Strats for a Martin and the same 814. Makes good cash teaching guitar on line for a local guitar store. Average 30 students.
He tries to get me to down load his lessons and teach. After 30 years teaching College, I am burnt out on teaching. Especially on line.
Take care ProfessorGAC. Happy summer to ya.
