As I recall it, Paul heard it played in an orchestra on BBC & asked George Martin if there was a way to use it.
So, George wrote this out & got the guy from the opera house to play it.
He got paid about $40 for the session!

2. I did not know that and did know of such an instrument . I suppose that's because I was in band for 6 years and

not orchestra. Good story. Not sure the Beatles would have been the same without George Martin.

He had a great ear, expansive musical knowledge & a very open mind.
He drove them to higher branches.
The story about Please Please Me.
George, working for the record company, picked some songs for them to record. Paul & John wanted to record their own songs.
Martin told them nothing they had were as good as his choices. If they could shoe him something better than those he would agree.
They came back a day or two later with PPM. He agreed it was better than his picks. Those guys probably never write that song until George set a high bar.

4. He explained "the hook" to them. When they returned with "Please, Please me," he told them they had their first #1 song
