Rick was mostly a session dude at that time. Yes was together but hadn't yet recorded.
David asked him to be a permanent member, so Rick had to choose between him & Yes. In multiple articles, Rick said it was a very difficult decision.
David worked with several fine piano guys, but he got to work with Wakeman & Garson, the latter by far the most.
2 of the finest 5 piano players of the rock era (imo) were contributors to David's work.
