September Song - Walter Huston

This is the longer version of September Song. The singer is Walter Huston who was somewhat limited in range but for whom composer Kurt Weill and lyricist Maxwell Anderson wrote this specially. The song originally appeared in the Broadway show 'Knickerbocker Holiday' in 1938. According to the sleeve notes of 'Mack The Knife - Songs of Kurt Weill' this version was recorded in 1938 and 1944.

I've heard this song many times, but today it strikes me as especially poignant. Could be because of my age and life experiences; who knows?
It's lovely, and particularly appropriate since today's September 1st. Thank you.

This is the third consecutive year that I've posted the video on September 1. There are many versions of the song, but Huston's is my favorite. His voice carries the weight of living that long, long while.
