What is your favorite on-line store for crafting supplies?

For quilting fabrics I find the best prices on Ebay and Etsy comes in second. I like Connecting Threads. too. They offer new fabric collections fairly often and are much cheaper than other first run collection sellers. My sister swears by Missouri Star, not my favorite. Fat Quarter Shop is good too.

I like Factory Direct Crafts for projects like making Christmas ornaments. Also good crafting items on Etsy. Etsy is my hands-down favorite for jewelry findings.

1. Most of my craft related work is for

table top wargaming with miniatures. My needs are more in the line of what I can find on sale or clearance to use for building terrain in 6mm (such as turf, balsa, hobby knives, paints, paper and brushes). Happily I found a few Facebook groups that lend themselves to a huge variety of ideas. I am now using up a stack of old CDs as bases for these excursions into miniature forests, hills, farms and villages.

I am lucky to have a Michaels within walking distance (on a good day, not doing it in the rain or snow). If I make a run across town I have available a couple of hobby shops, JoAnne Fabric, Art Mart and there is a Blicks as well, but I haven't tried them. I have also found that Dollar Tree has a few things that are of help.

I know that doesn't really answer your question about online sources, but the Facebook groups have really made me realize there is so much just looking around the house and at places we normally wouldn't look such as hardware stores and dollar stores.

2. I am a beader

I shop mostly in local Native-owned businesses but I buy from Crazy Crow what I can not find there. I'm old school when it comes to fabric, I need to touch it to know if I want it. That's where the coupons from Jo Anns come in handy. I quilt a little (very little) but recently found a pattern I love and have deemed it this winters project. Between now and then I will be taking advantage of their "get 50% off one cut of fabric" to collect what I need a little at a time.
When it comes to jewelry findings, buttons, zippers, trim...don't laugh - I repurpose from the thrift store. I can buy and cannibalize a handful of clasps, multi strand dividers and such for the price of one piece new. Not long ago I bought an old 1950's prom dress exclusively for the rhinestone trim. 9 yards of it total. I paid $3 for the dress, used what I needed and sold the rest for a profit of $65.

4. Thrift Stores and Estate Sales - Yes!

I also get items at the thrift store, just for the fabric or trim. And an estate sale with fabric and sewing stuff is heaven. Several summers ago I was in the middle of chemo and sick as a dog. My husband talked me into going to a sale, It was a quilters and there was one room full of fabric. They had not sold much of the fabric and the lady running the sale got me a chair and I sat in the room and she bought the fabrics to me to pick out what I wanted. she was so nice and I bought 3 boxes of high quality cotton quilt fabric. that was just about my best local find.


My daughter and I like to get items from the thrift store and cut them up and make things: flannel shirts made into throws and skirts, men's shirts made into blouses and skirts, T-shirts, bleached which changes their color, made into quits tops and skirts, felted sweaters made into vests, I could go and on about the items we have made, Another is skirts made from bandanna hankies or Hawaiians shirts. Recently made a necktie skirt, I decided it needs to be lined, I need to get fabric to line it.

Love thrift store stuff.

Forgot about them, I order from them too. I make and sell Southwest style jewelry using turquoise, coral and Milagros. I see many of my necklaces posted on Pinterest.

6. My Favorite Store is Shutting Down

I'm a paper crafter. I make cards, mini albums (which I never seem to fill), collage and other paper crafts. For years, I shopped primarily at Bluemoon Scrapbooking. Now I have to find a new favorite shop. I still haven't found an online craft store with as wide a selection as Bluemoon had, and website as easy to navigate as theirs.

7. Doll making supplies and more

I'm primarily a cloth doll maker. A couple of the sites that are good for supplies are Dollmakers Journey--pretty much anything you'd need or want for making cloth/fabric or clay dolls. And Joggles.com which is all kinds of craft supplies. I haven't ordered from Joggles for ages as I probably have more 'stuff' than I will use for the rest of my life, lol. So I'm not sure how they are on prices anymore. But you can find things you can't find on other sites. Dollmakersjourney.com is really excellent for fabrics--cotton or knit--to use for skin, bodies, faces etc. Plus hair, patterns etc. They are probably my favorite go to for patterns and hair.

I rarely buy regular cotton fabric online, as like someone else said, I like to feel it and see it in person. Usually get it at the annual big quilt show.
