&ab_channel=SonOfASpaceApe

Paula is a divorced mother and ex-Broadway dancer, who learns that her lover has left her only when aspiring actor Elliot arrives to sublet the apartment in the middle of the night. Their uneasy truce blossoms into love.
Dir: Herbert Ross Cast: Richard Dreyfuss, Marsha Mason, Quinn Cummings
Runtime: 110 mins Genre: Comedy Rating: TV-14 CC: Y

Oscar wins: ACTOR IN A LEADING ROLE -- Richard Dreyfuss {"Elliot Garfield"}

Oscar nominations: ACTRESS IN A LEADING ROLE -- Marsha Mason {"Paula McFadden"}
ACTRESS IN A SUPPORTING ROLE -- Quinn Cummings {"Lucy McFadden"}
BEST PICTURE -- Ray Stark, Producer
WRITING (Screenplay Written Directly for the Screen--based on factual material or on story material not previously published or produced) -- Neil Simon

Trivia: Richard Dreyfuss won the Oscar for Best Actor in a Leading Role for his role as Elliot Garfield. At 30, he was the youngest actor to win this Oscar. This record was broken by Adrien Brody when he won the Best Actor Oscar in 2003 for his lead role in The Pianist (2002) at age 29.

Trivia: The disastrous production of Shakespeare's "Richard III," in which Elliot Garfield (Richard Dreyfuss) portrays the title character as gay, was based on an actual production that Marsha Mason was in (as Lady Anne) and told her husband, Neil Simon, about. Like the production in the film, it took place at Joseph Papp's Public Theatre in New York in 1974, and starred Michael Moriarty.

Trivia: In the apartment, Elliot and Rhonda claim they are rehearsing Act 1, Scene 4 of Richard III. However, neither of their characters appear in that scene.

Trivia: When Quinn Cummings pulls the old style flip-top off the can of soda it breaks leaving a sharp piece sticking out of the opening of the can. Quinn sees it, but continues the scene with barely a flinch.

Runtime: 98 mins Genre: Crime Rating: TV-MA CC: Y

Oscar wins: MUSIC (Song--Original for the Picture) -- "Theme From Shaft," Music and Lyrics by Isaac Hayes
Oscar nominations: MUSIC (Original Dramatic Score) -- Isaac Hayes

Trivia: Isaac Hayes auditioned for the title role. Producers cast Richard Roundtree, but were so impressed with Hayes that they asked him to write the now legendary score to the film.

5:30 AM The All-American Boy (1973)
Vic "Bomber" Bealer is a handsome, manipulative boxer who aspires to something greater than the small-town life he knows in Texas. Trivia: According to the book "Clint Eastwood: Hollywood's Loner" (1992) by Michael Munn, Eastwood called Clyde the Orangutan "one of the most natural actors I ever worked with. But you had to get him on the first take because his boredom level was very limited."

10:00 AM Cartoon: I Eats My Spinach (1933)

Runtime: 6 mins Genre: Short Rating: TV-PG CC: Y

10:08 AM Young Dr. Kildare (1938)
A medical school graduate must choose between a small-town practice and a big-city internship.
Dir: Harold S. Bucquet Cast: Lionel Barrymore, Lew Ayres, Lynne Carver
Runtime: 67 mins Genre: Drama Rating: TV-G CC: Y

Trivia: This was the first film in which Lionel Barrymore played gruff-voiced but soft-hearted Dr. Gillespie. One of MGM studio chief Louis B. Mayer's favorite actors, Barrymore was cast in this role after he had played Judge Hardy in the first of the studio's Andy Hardy movies, A Family Affair. Mayer was determined that, as long as he lived, Barrymore would be employed by the studio and when Lionel's health confined him to a wheelchair, the part of Gillespie was re-written to accommodate Barrymore's condition. He would go on to play Gillespie in 14 more films.

A romantic drifter gets caught between a corrupt tycoon and his voluptuous wife.
Dir: Orson Welles Cast: Rita Hayworth, Orson Welles, Everett Sloane
Runtime: 86 mins Genre: Crime Rating: TV-PG CC: Y

Trivia: Near the end of shooting, Orson Welles told Columbia executives that he wanted a complete set repainted on a Saturday for shooting on Monday. Columbia exec Jack Fier told Welles it was impossible, because of union rules and the expense that would be incurred by calling in a crew of painters to work on a weekend. Welles and several friends broke into the paint department that Saturday and repainted the set themselves, and when they were finished they hung a banner on the set that read "The Only Thing We Have to Fear is Fier Himself." When the union painters arrived at work on Monday and saw that the set had been repainted by someone else, they refused to work, threw a picket line around the studio and threatened to stay on strike until a union crew was paid triple time for the work that had been done (which was why Fier had refused to authorize the work in the first place). To placate the union, Fier agreed to pay them what they wanted but put the cost on Welles' personal bill. In addition, he had the union painters paint a banner saying "All's Well That Ends Welles."

8:00 PM Almost Famous (2000)

A high-school boy in the early 1970s is given the chance to write a story for Rolling Stone magazine about an up-and-coming rock band as he accompanies them on their concert tour.
Dir: Cameron Crowe Cast: Billy Crudup, Patrick Fugit, Kate Hudson
Runtime: 122 mins Genre: Adventure Rating: TV-MA CC: N

Trivia: Penny Lane asks William if he'd like to go to Morocco with her. He says, "Yes... ask me again." According to Cameron Crowe, "ask me again" was Patrick Fugit stepping out of character and asking Kate Hudson to repeat her lines for another take. Crowe liked the take as-is and kept it in the final cut.

Trivia: Stillwater's songs were written by Peter Frampton (who also had a small part in the film), Cameron Crowe, and his ex-wife Nancy Wilson of the rock band Heart. The music acknowledgments credit Russell Hammond and Stillwater as if they were real authors and performers.

It has a special place for my wife and I. We bought a VCR just so we could record it (off Showtime). It was the very first movie we ever recorded on VCR and we played the hell out of it. (The second thing we recorded was "The 25th anniversary Tonight Show With Johnny Carson." We watched that a lot, too. It includes the Ed Ames tomahawk throw. Enjoy.)

When I was a kid. That will never get old, never. The way he jumps back as soon as he realizes what happened. Too funny.

Sweet story about your wife and you and The Goodbye Girl.
