&pp=ygUcdHJhaWxlciBoZCBkb2cgZGF5IGFmdGVybm9vbg%3D%3D

On one of the hottest days of August 1972, three amateur bank robbers plan to hold up a Brooklyn bank. A nice simple robbery: Walk in, take the money, and run. Unfortunately, the supposedly uncomplicated heist suddenly becomes a bizarre nightmare as everything that could go wrong does.
Dir: Sidney Lumet Cast: Al Pacino, John Cazale, Carol Kane
Runtime: 130 mins Genre: Crime Rating: TV-MA CC: Y

Oscar win:
WRITING (Original Screenplay) -- Frank Pierson

Oscar nominations:
ACTOR -- Al Pacino {"Sonny"}
ACTOR IN A SUPPORTING ROLE -- Chris Sarandon {"Leon"}
DIRECTING -- Sidney Lumet
FILM EDITING -- Dede Allen
BEST PICTURE -- Martin Bregman and Martin Elfand, Producers

Trivia: Although he had initially agreed to play the part of Sonny, Al Pacino told Sidney Lumet near the start of production that he couldn't play it. Pacino had just completed production on The Godfather Part II (1974) and was physically exhausted and depressed after the shoot. With his reliance on the Method, Pacino didn't relish the thought of working himself up to a state of near hysteria every day. Lumet unhappily accepted the actor's decision and dispatched the script to Dustin Hoffman. Pacino changed his mind when he heard that his rival was being considered. During production, Al Pacino reportedly only slept a couple hours a night, ate sparingly, and would sometimes take cold showers in order to emphasize Sonny's disheveled, exhausted and yet wired appearance.

Dir: Terrence Malick Cast: Martin Sheen, Sissy Spacek, Warren Oates

Trivia: The actor originally cast as the architect who rings at the rich man's door did not show up, so Terrence Malick played the part himself. Malick later wanted to re-shoot the scene with another actor, but Martin Sheen refused to re-do the sequence with anyone else.

Another driver in a convertible who was stopped next to him stared at him for a few seconds, then said, "You're the hitchhiker, right?" Talman nodded, indicating that he was. The other driver got out of his car, went over to Talman's car and slapped him across the face, then got back in his car and drove off. In recalling the story, Talman said, "You know, I never won an Academy Award but I guess that was about as close as I ever will come to one."

But a 2015 Criterion Collection remaster, with improved sound, revealed that Donovan actually requested Dylan play that song for him. That gave the entire scene a new meaning and revealed Dylan and Donovan as more friends than rivals.
