So far (it's only been a week) I'm only working from reference photos, but I'm building up confidence to try a life drawing class after a nearly thirty year hiatus.

(8,430 posts)Thank you for the compliment--it means a lot to me because I'm such a fan of your work--but I'm sure you can draw this well, and you're a great colorist to boot.

(21,696 posts)i really liked the ones i did w/color pencil + added crayon for shading. best spray painted(metallic great) paper w/ pastels.

(8,430 posts)I've been working with color using oil paint, but just landscapes and interiors, not the figure yet. I've never used colored pencil.
I'm looking forward to working with color with the figure, but another part of me says I still have so much to learn about anatomy and values. I think if I toss color into the mix now, it's too much complexity for me right now. I could see me playing around with ink, though.

femmedem
(8,430 posts)I appreciate your comment about movement because I was so conscious of trying to capture the flow of the pose and of not tightening up.

(53,410 posts)Im delighted you jumped in and started figure drawing! Ive been looking forward to this since you mentioned you wanted to do it. The human body is fascinating isnt it? Everything is about subtle shading, which youre doing quite well. And when you go to a class you get a wonderful variety of bodies of real people with flaws and everything!
If you dont already have one get a book of models in all kinds of poses. The good books will also have individual parts of the body like hands, feet, ears, noses and eyes that you can draw.
I cant wait to see your life drawings!

(53,410 posts)Its time after 30 years to devote yourself to the one thing that makes you utterly unique. Your art. Im very happy if my encouragement has helped out. I know how important it is to get it.

(13 posts)How long have you been studying figure drawing?
femmedem
(8,430 posts)and occasionally went to open drawing sessions into my late twenties, but I'm just starting again after a thirty year hiatus.
I'm studying harder now than I did back then; I don't think I ever did any gesture drawings back then that came out as well as these.

(8,430 posts)I think the biggest hold up at this point is either fixing our car or getting a new one, because the engine is ticking too much to take it for a twenty-minute drive to the drawing session.
