Working full time at 60 is exhausting

I don’t know how much longer I can do this. I am wiped out by the end of the day and all I do is work at a computer all day at home. The exhausting part used to be the commute but since Covid I can’t use that excuse anymore.

I want to retire but can't live on a fixed income. I empathize with you being at the end of your rope and exhausted.

When I was 60, I was still doing 21 or 22 business trips per year.
All that traipsing through airports, 10, 12, 14, 16 hour flights (which I had to so another 5 days later to get home), living out if suitcases, working four 11 or 12 hour days at three different periods each day, and mountains of data analysis when I was in town.
That's why I retired at 62. I got so tired of the travel.

I taught for 25 years (late 20's to mid 50's) but left due to utter mental burnout. So earlier this year I took a job in Transportation for a medical rehab company. The position was basically mis-represented and I'm on the road about 5-7 hours per day. I like it well enough but I'm WHIPPED at the end of the day frankly. I need to work until I'm 62 but really don't know if I'm gonna make it for all the reasons that have already been mentioned. I'm in decent shape but GD it's a grind......all that being said, I'd be retired and on easy street like some of my friends if I would've invested well over the years but I didn't and here I am. That's the bad news, the good news is my wife did all the right things and we're gonna be ok but like most of us, I don't want to just be 'OK'. We all want more than that obviously.

I was fortunate in that I was able to save and invest to be able to retire early. I took a job with the VA as a GS-13 but didn't like it and quit after 3 months and haven't worked since. I did some volunteer work but realized I liked not working more than working even though when I was in the AF I was a workaholic and enjoyed it. If I had to work at 60 or older I'd be miserable.
