(22,959 posts)It's really pretty and serene out there at night. I have about 10 wired landscaping lights out there, and point them toward the plants. The one under the weeping cherry points straight up through the tree. Pics don't do it justice.

(11,999 posts)Super duper dazzling photos there, Lucky!
Can't you just stay in your home and hire indoor and outdoor labor help?
You don't want to live in an apartment, trust me. You think your next door crack head neighbors are bad? For the love of Nancy, stay in your beloved home!

(22,959 posts)I'll be almost 73 in a five years...
Believe it or not, that mulched area was a lot of work for me. Took me about a month just to get it ready to mulch!
The back yard is huge, and then there are bushes on the other side of the house that have to be maintained about every two weeks.
So every Spring, I go through the same thing...am I going to be able to do this stuff this year? And every year, it gets just a bit more difficult.
5 years ago though? I can and did do yardwork all day. It's amazing the changes your body goes through in 5 years.
Oh...had to get up on a ladder today. I went to mail a bill, and as I was backing out of the driveway, I saw the sun glistening off something on the roof. When I came home, I got up there and retrieved it. It was a folding razor blade knife. And now I'm freaked out, because it's not my knife, and there has been no one up on that roof for a few years! This is going to be bothering me...
Someone does mow the lawn for me...mainly because it takes me 2.5 hours to mow, and I'd rather pay the money to have it done.
Hope your day is good.

(11,999 posts)All I'm suggesting (I'm not trying to be bossy) is hire someone to do the mulching and landscaping for you when you can't physically do this work anymore.
I'd rather you keep your home for several reasons:
1. Rent prices are insane these days compared to mortgages.
2. You have one nightmare of a neighbor currently. This could be much worse in an apartment. It could be multiple nightmare neighbors. Or it could be livable and manageable.
3. Parking. Depending on circumstances, a separate condo with separate driveways would be ideal. But in an apartment, you'd most likely have to share a parking lot or parking space which can be a nightmare itself. I'm only speaking from my past experiences. I hated apartment living. It didn't help that I worked 2nd shift at the time while everyone else was 1st shifters.
O.o. I had to climb a ladder a few days ago. It was shaky for me. My entire body started to shake and I whined about it.
That's a strange place for a razor blade knife!
Thank you.
I hope that your day is good as well!

(22,959 posts)I guess what I am thinking is more of a senior living complex. Maybe when I'm around 75-78...something like that. I probably don't have to worry about it though, because I'll be lucky to live that long.
My mom lived on the 10th floor of a senior complex, with a nice view. It was quiet, clean, had a superintendent on premises, etc. When I used to visit her, I used to think "I could probably live like this".
I'd have to put all my stuff in storage...the basement and the garage are full. I have million tools.
But mentally, I don't know if I could handle selling this place because I've put so much work into it...it would break my heart.
The ideal solution, depending on our health status, is to remain here as long as possible. If we get too crippled up, we'd both live on the first floor (currently, spouse stays pretty much downstairs, and I stay pretty much upstairs). I have to sleep in a recliner because of my back, and she sleeps in the bedroom. I could then hire work out, but, and this is a real concern for me...I'm a perfectionist, and nobody ever does as good as a job that I do, and that causes me stress. That's why I decided to learn how to do stuff myself...no one ever does it like the homeowner that CAN do it. No one cares about your home like you yourself do.
Sorry...I'm just ruminating here. I hate thinking about what the next 5 to 10 years might bring, but I guess I have to start thinking about it.
Edit to add: Be careful on that ladder. I was shaky up there too. Kept thinking "If I fall, I'm dead". And I wasn't all that high up either.

(11,999 posts)I hope that you and Mrs. LuckyCharms get to live in your beloved home for a long while yet.
I had forgotten about senior complexes and in most cases in would be ideal for most people.
I just never forgotten my terrible renting experiences (neighbors, noise and parking issues).
I wasn't up that high on the ladder either, but I get shaky due to my fear of heights. I was hanging a Dollar Tree disco ball ornament since my disposable foil pan bird deterrents weren't rain and wind proof.

(10,307 posts)You could add one more item to your to do list:
DeGnarl your gnarly, gnortherly? gneighbors. Perhaps they also have ka-nowledge of the ka-nife?

(22,959 posts)That crossed my mind.
The only thing I can figure is that a roofer left the knife up there many years ago when they replaced the roof...maybe tucked under a gable soffit or something...and then some animal dragged it out of there? I don't know...
