I was planning to get a calendar but haven't yet
I usually get a paper wall calendar when I'm Christmas shopping, but this year, I got gift cards at a couple stores, and forgot to get a calendar. I've been staying in for one reason or another, so here I am, almost the end of January, with no calendar for 2026. I've been using my phone calendar, but it's hard to make the switch.
I could print a calendar, but I dismantled my tower, printer, etc. to declutter for the holidays, and haven't put it back together. My daughter offered to print me a few months, but we forgot.
Since I'm staying in for a few more days, I got the bright idea of using an old calendar that is laid out the same as 2026. This is not as crazy as it sounds. You can look online and see which past years will match up with the current year.
Way back when my kids were young, I read a Dear Heloise tip about using your wall calendar as a mini diary. I thought that was a terrific idea and from then on, my calendar wasn't just for appts. but for all kinds of daily events which were vital at the time. I have calendars all the way back to the late 70s. Somewhere. I have no idea where to look, but I have other stashes. I have some calendars I put in my vintage booth and thought it'd be easier to unpack one of those. The only one I could find was a 1995 Easy Rider full color with scantily clad biker chicks and it is the wrong year. I had some of my Mom's calendars from when she lived in Colorado, but I couldn't find them either. I finally raided my old home office and found my work calendars. Over the last hour, I have looked at 25 calendars, many multiples of the same years, and after almost giving up, found a 2009 calendar that I can use. That was the year I retired. It was also the year that I had time to put an X on every single day. I also taped the pages together as each month passed, and I had to cut them apart, but other than that it's a pretty good calendar! It looks fine on the wall, especially since it's the end of January and the blue Xs on each day look normal.
I hope that one of these days, I find my wall calendars/diaries. I bet we'd all love looking through those
