Three Men in a Boat (not to mention the dog)

I just listened to the audiobook, read by Martin Jarvis. The 1889 novel by Jerome K. Jerome relates 3 men's boat trip up the Thames, with the dog. The novel is full of anecdotes, serious or funny, glimpses of the villages on the Thames, Victorian life. I enjoyed listening to it.

Here is a link:

There are some funny stories about rowing or towing a boat on the Thames. The descriptions of the narrator learning how to row on his own when he was a teenager are hilarious.

We got freezing rain and sleet, so we didn't get the accumulation. We have subzero temps, so nothing is melting, either!

one of my friends near Cleveland sent me pics of her yard. Lots of snow!

audio books everyday. Depending on who the reader is, can determine how interesting the book is. I always thought John Grisham audio books were fabulous because of the readers he employed. They could change their voice for different characters, and made it much easier to follow the story. I used to go the public library every week to pick up new audio books, and return the ones I listened to.

so I listen to audio books. I have found almost every book I've wanted on YouTube or Internet Archive.

My daughter was looking for a certain genre, and I found Three Men in a Boat looking for ideas to pass along to her. I thought I could use a change of pace and it sure suited.

Miss Julie series. There are probably around 20 books total. I enjoyed them too. They are wholesome, funny, and all the readers do a great job.

Fannie Flagg is another author I know you will like. She wrote Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe. My favorite of hers was, "A Redbird Christmas" only 5.5 hours, but really a good story.

I'll pass those along to my daughter. I think her book club reads a book a month. The choices are varied.

I usually land on mysteries, but right now listening to a geologist, Myron Cook, and either History Time or Fortress of Lugh. I thought I should lighten up a bit

Aw, it doesn't show. It's a Far Side comic with three men in a boat.

and I second your opinion.

Another unlikely, sort of forgotten book that I recommend to everybody is Tristram Shandy, by Laurence Sterne. It is hilarious.
