damn,,,, We have avoided it all this time but now it's in our space. We live in Senior Apartments and we are self-isolating, I think there's a little epidemic happening here,,,, Lots of folks are sick, but I wonder how many are not testing themselves for COVID. I plan on sleeping on the couch tonight, because I tested negative. I have emphysema and need to try to stay well. We have received all the vaccines for COVID so hopefully he will have a mild case.
I'm just whining,,,, thanks for listening.

(18,807 posts)Dear husband has COPD, so I was a quite anxious. I encouraged him to sleep a whole lot and every time he opened his eyes I gave him fluids. That plan worked and he really got through it in a few days without me ever being overly concerned. I too felt better in a few days. He tested negative in a week, it took me nearly a month to test negative.
Hope you both recover quickly and without any big issues! 💕
Edited to add: I tested positive first and took paxlovid immediately, tried to quarantine from him as best as I could. He tested a few days later, I got him paxlovid but ended up not giving it to him since he was doing pretty well and Id read it can stretch out the length of time you have symptoms.

(3,385 posts)He stayed in the bedroom unless exiting masked to the bathroom. Window was cracked. There was a bin in the bedroom for dirty dishes , which were very limited. There was a garbage can in there for trash. Food was left at the door and served on disposable dishes and utensils whenever possible. Soup in paper cups. He sorted his dishes, disposed of all trash and put his laundry in a basket. I didnt touch any of that. When he came out of quarantine he set all of that in the garage for a week. In the meantime I pushed as many fluids and healthy foods on him as I could! Food and meds were left at the door. I felt so much better not having his debris scattered around the place! Stay safe! Hugs and love to you!🤣😁💗💗

(154 posts)is how you have to end the year! It is not whining! I appreciate you letting us know and it reminds us all to stay careful. There is lots of good advice in these posts. Im hoping with your breathing issues you can avoid getting it. Take special care. Wishing you both excellent health in the new year.

(35,512 posts)my first thought was: get out and go stay at a hotel
but that might not be such a good idea -- you could catch something there too
do you have hepa air filters? turn them all on
do you have masks you can wear?
don't forget to wash your hands before touching your face/eyes/nose
maybe your husband can stay put in the bedroom (with the door closed)?
hope he recovers quickly and you don't come down with it
maybe you'll be able to find some ideas/help/answers at this link:

(23,920 posts)I could barely breathe, barely talk (more like squeaking). Paxlovid fixed me up fast. Maybe his doctor should give a prescription for it, so you can get it fast if necessary. If you don't have to fill the prescription, great.
Good luck.

(913 posts)How can the doctor be assured you really have Covid in order to issue the prescription for Paxlovid? Do you have to test positive in the office? By the time you get all of that done you've missed the best window for the Paxlovid right?
JustABozoOnThisBus
(23,920 posts)She could tell over the phone that my breathing and speaking were less than ideal. She sent the prescription to the pharmacy immediately. No visit needed. It was fast
take care of yourself. Try Paxlovid if you can. Self-isolation is needed. It's still out there, unfortunately.

(1,662 posts)If you haven't already I'd have your husband get a prescription for Paxlovid. My husband got COVID for the first time about 3 months ago. Got him on Paxlovid as soon as he tested positive. He only had a fever for about 2 days and a slight cough for about a week.
We both work from home so couldn't really avoid each other, but wore masks when in close proximity and he kept his office door closed. We also had two HEPA filter air purifiers going, one in his office and one in mine.
I never got COVID and my husband's symptoms were very mild.

(134 posts)N95 masks specifically. People seem to have forgotten that with the later variants, it was determined that other masks do not work!

(35,796 posts)Get an air purifier with a HEPA filter on it and put it near you on the couch.
Also wear your mask in the house.
I have caught COVID from my spouse and my daughter**, but not if I sit behind an air purifier, sleep separately, and wear a mask as much as possible. (I have a spouse who refuses to wear masks, so I have to protect myself. If you have a cooperative spouse, it is even better if they wear a mask.)
** From my spouse when we were on vacation and living in the same hotel room with no way to isolate (and she thought it was an allergy attack - which all of her prior scares were). From my daughter when she had some mild sniffly thing and didn't test (and didn't tell me she had something).

(31,605 posts)for the first, and I hope, last time. We had Paxlovid, and got well quickly. Of course, we are vaxxed and boosted.
I still have serious shortness of breath after all this time. I hope it goes away someday.
Good luck and try to take care of yourselves!

(5,151 posts)I got Covid in August and the PAxlovid stomped on the symptom in one day.
I still stested positive for 5 days but felt pretty well.

(4,668 posts)DH and I have managed to stay free of it so far, but I worry about it. You just know your turn is coming at some point. Mom is in memory care and after each holiday we get notified there's been an outbreak. Mom has tested positive 5 times since the original pandemic but other than the symptoms of a bad cold, she's been asymptomatic each time.
I know you, like us, have kept up on your shots. I hope it lessens any severity for your hubby and that he recovers quickly. Healing thoughts coming your way, if you don't mind.

(34,970 posts)mild cases. I didn't get it until fall 2022 (had to travel due to death in family).
I am immune suppressed due to meds, so I had an infusion and started on Paxlovid. I had already had vaccines by then as well. I think all of those helped, but also inhaler and codeine cough syrup were key. Coughing was my worst symptom. I did stay positive for about 3 weeks, even when feeling a lot better.

(7,283 posts)Like the flu, it's going to mutate and require new booster shots each year. Even then 10's of thousands of Americans will get it each year.

(4,041 posts)Both are OTC. Quercetin is antiviral.
I keep them handy and use at the first sign of anything; first blip of fever or chills. Vit D also but I stay on that regardless, especially in winter.
Wishing the best for both of you.
