(30,810 posts)here there was a lot of inflatables. Trees decorated with spider web. etc. Not so much anymore.

(17,345 posts)Sadly, no trick or treaters in my neighborhood. For Christmas I go all out. No blow ups so my yard looks decorated even when the lights etc arent on.

Now I have given up on Halloween.
I was the house that gave out
funny flashlights instead of candy.

(3,695 posts)So many decorations we had to rent a storage locker as they were taking over the garage.
We live on a street that is really fun on Halloween. One of the few neighborhoods with both sidewalks and streetlights here, so LOTS of parents bring the kids here to trick or treat. We set up several 'scenes' and create a new 'spook' every year to add to the fun. Most of the neighbors do it up proper these days. It's like a big multi-block party + street fair.
Being near the border and lucky enough to have a high Latino population (they've been here longer than the Anglos) we also celebrate and include decorations for Dia De Los Muertos in our yard.
But NO fake cobweb stuff. That is very bad for the birds. Don't use it outside. Fine indoors, but not outside where birds can become entangled.

(55,494 posts)lately they don't even get carved anymore. my oldest was an October baby, and he loves scary movies and Halloween. when he was young we started including some kind of Halloween item with his birthday gifts, usually some plastic skeleton type thing available in August in the grocery store ( ), now I order on line. he has quite a collection. one of my favorites is the skeleton pink flamingo yard decoration.
we live in the middle of nowhere and nobody really visits much less trick-or-treaters. when the kids were young we would drive to the tiny town where our post office is and they would make the rounds while we handed out treats from the back of our truck.

(202 posts)I usually carve two pumpkins lit with battery operated tea lights. We got a lot of tricks or treaters and most are 8 years old and younger. Therefore, I avoid decorations that are scary or gory and I avoid using candles to protect toddlers. I do hang a backdrop from the porch ceiling where children can pose for selfies. I also keep dog treats for those who bring their furry friends along. The neighborhood dogs remember my house long after Halloween and I, occasionally, need to dole out treats when trying to haul my trash cans and recycling to the curb.

(202 posts)Parents really enjoy taking photos of their toddlers using the backdrop. Older tweens and teens enjoy it as well.

(8,904 posts)A street about one block away see's about 200 trick-or-treaters but it's also a newer, more expensive addition with an abundance of families with young children.
P.S. Halloween/Samhain/All Hallows Eve is my ultimate favorite day/night. 👻☠💀🕸🧛♀️🦇🎃

(30,810 posts)giver, Rich was kid walker. I remember, I would make myself a costume from a pattern and give out the treats.

(486 posts)We used to do real pumpkins with carving, but kids in the neighborhood would steal them and smash them all over the street. They leave the fake ones alone. Some of our neighbors go all out. They have inflatable figures in their yard, create graveyards, or hang ghosts from trees. My favorite part is when the little ones come to the door on Halloween. The costumes are very creative and the kids are so adorable!

(5,801 posts)When we moved up here, we moved into what has to be the most dour, 'stick in the mud' neighborhood in the entire Twin Cities. So, I will decorate the inside a bit, but it is all but impossible to do it outside due to the ridiculous HOA regulations. And, since this place has a reputation about being said party poopers, no one will come here anyway. So, no candy is necessary.
BUT...
Back when we lived in Nashville, our entire half of the street would go all out. I loved it!
And, there is usually a Zombie Walk each year. It is an event that collects food donations for local shelters and such. One either dresses as a zombie or a zombie hunter. I went for many years. This one was especially memorable.
(I apologize for the blockage. It is set so no one can copy it. If you hit the link, you can see the fun we used to have.)
