(1,437 posts)They're so smart, and they love what they do. I've only seen them herding sheep and goats, but they respond to different whistles when guiding the herd in the right direction. They are very good dogs.

(3,046 posts)He was a farmer he said, raising cattle. (There, those who raise livestock are farmers too.) He had 70 head of cattle these days, he told us. My husband asked him if he had help with the cattle, but no, he had a herding dog to help him. That was mind-boggling to us Texans.
Wish we'd been there more than five days and had gotten to see that happen!
I was completely charmed by their hedgerows instead of fencing too. Picture postcard pretty.
