(494 posts)However, what gets me is the drivers turning left who stop at the stop line when the left turn signal turns yellow, and sit there, rather than entering the intersection and wait for a break in incoming traffic to turn, although they have the green light to proceed and wait there until they see the next left turn signal come on.

(53,902 posts)So I'm facing a car, we're at a red light, no other traffic, just waiting for the light to change.
I'm going straight, he's got his left turn signal on.
Light turns green. I have the right of way, but he starts turning left, knowing he will occupy the contested space first so I will have to stop to avoid an accident. I was going 3 miles an hour so stopping is obvious and easy, but it's annoying to start stop start.
This is literally creating a potential accident, he times it so that there will be an accident unless I hit the brakes,
*just go through the red light*! It would be safer, seeing as there was no other traffic, to just go through the red light, knowing that I'm not moving while it's red.
Oh but that would be illegal? Well, yeah, but so is failure to yield the right of way. It's basically the same law. But going through the red would be safer.
If your driving strategy is less safe than going through a red light, maybe you should rethink your driving techniques....
