Left Handers Day! I am one of 'em!
It falls on August 13th!
There's a website dedicated to this day, believe it or not:

(19,033 posts)For decades, the southpaw origin story was a logical one: In the days before lighting systems made night games possible, most ballparks were oriented so that the batter would be looking east out to the mound in order to avoid having to stare into the glare of the afternoon sun. So, with pitchers facing west when they stared into home plate, the arm of a left-handed hurler would be to the south side of the diamond.
However, the earliest mentions of the term in baseball refer to position players, not pitchers. According to MLB official historian John Thorn, baseball has a totally different sport to thank: boxing, in which hitting someone with a left hand came to be known as a punch using the "south paw."

(16,869 posts)Ah, yes the left hander's writing smudge. I know it all too well!
Same with pencil drawing smudges. I learned to put a blank sheet of paper under my hand.
The trickiest thing in Art College was learning Calligraphy with a dip pen! Uh, oh!
There's still the adorable little red, square, hardback covered book - The Left Handers Book!
My folks gave it to me when I was around twelve years old. 👍
I think I had a pair of left handed scissors once.
I became more ambidextrous with certain tools. Still write, draw, cut, and throw with my left hand.

(4,288 posts)Learned, first thing out or the clinic to use chopsticks left handed. The Asian waiter was impressed. Ran my belt through the loops backwards to make it easier to open and close. Learning to cut veggies while cooking was good. Still have my fingers...
Fun stuff trying to do things with the nondominant hand.

(19,033 posts)you don't need two hands for chopsticks?

(8,912 posts)I'm a right-hander so I'll never understand left-handed struggles.
I wanted to give the following left-handed people recognition as well.
1. Notorious RBG
2. David Bowie
3. Kurt Cobain. Now Kurt was right-handed but he always played guitar using his left hand. If someone ever explained why I certainly missed it. I always thought that was interesting.
