(582 posts)Love it! The best I can do with my Saintly Bernards is to teach them to read flash cards to help slow learners read better. (I write and illustrate kids books.) My girls love food too much to wait for the signal to eat.
These three are precious. Thanks so much for posting!

(10,066 posts)I'm the one on the left.
Slow eater.
Picky eater.
I love that dog! Okay, I love all of them.
I am not going to eat anything weird.
Dem2theMax
(10,066 posts)So reminds me of me.
Not only in childhood, but now, in the later years of my life! I will still do exactly what that dog did. If I taste it and it's horrible, it's coming out of my mouth in the same way.

(55,605 posts)If the food looks or smells funny, I won't touch it.
Yes I will spit it out too.
When I was a child, and my mother put beets on my plate,
I couldn't stand it. No one should ever eat anything that color.
Avocados have a weird color and the texture is way too slimy for human consumption.
I could go on and on about all the weird food people eat.

(10,066 posts)I trust my nose 100%. If it doesn't pass the smell test, it doesn't go in my mouth. My family thought I was the weirdest thing on the planet. They would sit and watch me do that, sniff my food, and then refuse to eat it. And of course they would laugh at me. And I didn't care. Not putting something in my mouth if I know it's going to be foul in any way.
I'm right there with you on slimy food. But, I am in Southern California and avocados are sort of a religion here. Can't go a day without some form of Mexican food. Plus I have avocado trees in the backyard. Or as one person once called them, guacamole trees!
Bananas. I have a very hard time with bananas. To me, those are slimy. So I freeze them and put them in smoothies and then I don't have to get the slimy part. And kiwi fruit! Talk about slimy!
Irish_Dem
(55,605 posts)Or make banana bread.
I don't just go by smell, I go by color and texture too.
Oh yes. There is something not right about eating a kiwi thingy.
Yes it looks so slimy. Little brown blob, you cut it, it is pretty I admit.
But what are all those markings on it.
Bugs, seeds, god knows what.
I am not going to find out.
Don't get me started on guacamole. Shuddering to think about it.

(10,066 posts)Thereby protecting you from ever having to do so.
Maybe you can trade me something you can't eat.

(10,066 posts)At this point, I think I'd like to share something!
How about some yummy chocolate?
Irish_Dem
(55,605 posts)Can never go wrong with chocolate.
Unless a dessert is chocolate, it is not really a dessert.
For example, I like cherry pie, but consider it only a fruit or vegetable dish.
They are tricking you into thinking it is a dessert!
Dem2theMax
(10,066 posts)I always say why waste your calories on anything but chocolate? What's the point?
I have to have some form of chocolate every single day. Even if it's just a couple of chocolate chips. That's when I'm being lazy.
As my family always said, I don't bleed blood, I bleed chocolate.
And you are 100% correct. Dessert must ALWAYS be chocolate. It is a rule. And anything with fruit in it is a fruit course or vegetable.
