Here are our new kitties. We got them Monday afternoon. They're 12 weeks old.
This is Carmen. Where else would a cat of mine be, but near a piano?
This is Margo, with big brother Vincent.

(790 posts)Margo looks a lot like Ginger kitty with the white chest blaze and toes. He was abandoned when his people moved away and left him and several other cats. I took him in and my friend found homes for the others. I wish I’d seen him as a kitten, but Margo gives me an idea how cute he was. Hell, ALL kittens are cute! Your new fur kids are beautiful!

(73,558 posts)It's fun. She comes out of the kennel a few times ago, and bee-lines right to Vincent.
Carmen seeks him out, but Margo makes it her first priority to get her face locked.
We've had cats forever, so I'm expecting the same thing we've had for 45 years.
Also, our cats are 100% indoor. That might have something to do with how laid back they've all been.

Thank you for sharing, Professor. I don't visit the pet group as often as I should.

(73,558 posts)A week ago today we lost our kitty of 20 years, and another (14 years old) due to cancer 2 months ago.
It's been a long time since we had kittens around here.
And the way they immediately interacted with Vincent is super fun.

(10,804 posts)I understand, we lost our 19 year bossy pants cat at the end of July of last year.
I'm not interested in adopting but I still sneak in donations to animal shelters when I can.
I'm so happy for you!

(26,395 posts)I am very partial to orange cats. Glad you got two of the little beasties. You’ve got some fun coming your way.

(73,558 posts)Then, we got 2 out of the same litter; and girls.
We've always had boy dogs & girl cats.

(26,395 posts)as orange boys. We used to have an orange boy that was all muscle. He was such a fierce fighting tank of a cat, but very gentle with kittens.

(73,558 posts)From that, I'd say your observation is spot on.

(23,885 posts)“As the frequency of the orange gene is much less than the frequency of the black gene in the general cat population, the chance of having two orange genes is much less frequent. This makes male orange cats more frequent than orange females,” Bell says.
What does this all mean for their offspring? If a mother cat is orange, her male kittens will be orange regardless of their father’s color, Konecny says, and if a mother cat is tortoiseshell (a mix of black, white and orange), half of her male kittens will be orange while the other half will be black.
To get an orange female kitten, both the mother and father must be orange, Konecny says. If the mother cat is tortoiseshell and the father cat is orange, half of the female kittens will be orange, she says.
