Study: Majority of 18-34 year olds support...violence...disinformation to drive change

Long form title of article: Global study shows majority of 18-34 year olds support using violence and disinformation to drive change

The 2025 Edelman Trust Barometer signals a shift from fear to grievance

https://fortune.com/2025/01/19/edelman-trust-barometer-violence-disinformation-social-trends/amp/

According to the latest Edelman Trust Barometer, people have moved beyond polarization to “aggressive advocacy for self-interest.”

Trust in governments, business leaders and the media has devolved to the point where people feel angry, alienated and willing to drive change by almost any means possible, according to the 2025 Edelman Trust Barometer.

The survey, now in its 25th year, finds a world in which average citizens feel the system is unfair and capitalism doesn’t work for them. Two-thirds of respondents said they are discriminated against, up 10 percentage points from last year, with the largest jump among whites in the U.S. (+14 points to 48%).

Economic fears played a large role in the results.

As Edelman wrote in an opinion piece published last week in Fortune: “The most pressing need is to restore economic optimism. Our research tells us that when people see solutions, they’re more hopeful and willing to sacrifice for the greater good. When trust is earned, optimism grows.”

So, they're "...willing to drive change by almost any means possible...", except, of course, by voting.

Economic fears. Distrust in business. Capitalism doesn't work for them. So, they elect a billionaire who staffs his government with billionaires and who has the three biggest media billionaires in his pocket, and all of whom oppose raising the minimum wage, oppose student debt relief and oppose unions. Makes sense to me! -snark-

Well done, conservatives – your campaign of disinformation, sowing chaos, and lies has paid off.

The Reavers' true origin is revealed later in the movie Serenity. The crew of Serenity find evidence, in the form of an Alliance scientist's holographic message, that Reavers were originally humans from the planet Miranda. The Alliance government used Miranda as a testing ground for the chemical agent G-23 Paxilon Hydrochlorate, or simply "Pax" (Latin for "peace&quot . It was added to the planet's air processors in order to calm the population and weed out aggression. The agent worked, but too well: 99.9% of the population became so lethargic that they stopped working, talking and, eventually, eating and moving. They simply lay down where they were and allowed themselves to die. The remaining 0.1% of the planet's 30 million people (approximately 30,000 total) had the opposite reaction to the Pax, becoming mindlessly violent and extremely aggressive. In fact, the scientist is violently killed by one of these survivors, the original Reavers, while recording the message.[

The polls weren't GOP'ers. It was everybody, and in multiple countries. I should have emphasized that.

There was a breakout of US respondents that reflected similarly to the more global response.
