Luke Skywalker Mark Hamill is among the people who have evacuated Malibu amid the wildfires that are raging across parts of Los Angeles. The Star Wars actor shared on Instagram how he and his family left their home amid the spreading blaze.
Starting in Pacific Palisades, one of Los Angeles toniest neighborhoods, the fires overnight also hit parts of Malibu and Santa Monica. The three fires, as of Wednesday morning, were zero percent contained, per the L.A. Fire Department. (See photos.)
California Gov. Gavin Newsom declared a state of emergency on Tuesday night, as Santa Monica and Malibu published evacuation orders.
7pm Evacuated Malibu so last-minute there (were) small fires on both sides of the road as we approached PCH, Hamill posted on his Instagram account on Tuesday night. The PCH is the Pacific Coast Highway.
At 8:15 p.m., Hamilton, wife Marilou York and their dog Trixie arrived at their daughter Chelseas house in Hollywood, he added. Most horrific fire since 93, he concluded, expressing hope that other people would also stay safe................

(94,643 posts)No matter who is working on it. Mother Nature rules on this one. The trifecta is ongoing... plenty of fuel, plenty of oxygen and hurricane force wind. This will burn all the way to the sea.

(94,643 posts)To say the least. We have them in Montana too but so many people are in the way in SoCal.
Earlier today I was discussing this fire event with my pal who was a smoke jumper his entire career, he's fought fires around Malibu before, has relatives in Calabassas. We were going over the way this fire might travel and the terrain in the area. It's a nasty place to fight a wildfire to begin with but the Santa Ana winds are the over-riding factor. You can't stop the wind, you just have to wait it out.
This was one of my greatest fears when I lived in the area, fires during Santa Ana events.
