MAGA can't quit Matt: will Gaetz return to Congress as elected Rep or appointed Senator?
As the reverberations of Matt Gaetz's decision to quit on his AG dreams ricochetted around the internet, the MAGAs coalesced around two positions. One, it was the damn elitists who had brought down a great American Crusader before he could excise the Deep State cancer poisoning the Dept of Justice and the DC establishment.
Two, their valiant warrior should remain in Congress to continue the good fight against the woke socialism polluting Americas vital bodily fluids. The word went out that Matts resignation is irrelevant, he was still Florida 1s Representative-elect. With the wave of a wishful thinking wand, Gaetz could transform from incumbent to newly elected.
Note: if the law says Gartzs resignation nullifies his re-election, he could run in the special election to replace himself.
For the bigger dreamers, the preferred plan is for Floridas Governor DeSantis to appoint Gaetz to replace departing FL Senator, the Secretary of State-designate, Marco Rubio. He could then serve until a special election in 2026. There is no word yet on Rons position on the matter.

End his freaky ass for good. Or hang him around the neck of GQO. Especially MTG, Graham and Tommy Tub. The rape is allowed for GQP Christians. Like Alex Jones that just called him a stud for all of it.

I suppose DeSantis could appoint him to fill Rubios vacancy, but I think Lara Trump has dibs on that seat, and she has less baggage than Gaetz.

(6,291 posts)The question of whether he could return is now moot, since he is deciding not to do so. He couldn't anyway, without running in the special election. He resigned the seat he was re-elected to, so his re-election is also resigned.
As far as the senate goes, I think this guy has no chance of getting that. The senate wouldn't seat him, and I don't think he wants the details of his statutory rape and his sexual escapades splashed everywhere. He doesn't have to worry about justice or prison, we don't put people like him in jail, or prosecute them because we have cowards in the justice system. But he doesn't want to take chances on that.
