He’s no longer the “change” candidate.

If you’re compiling a list of the head-spinning, gob-smacking, I’ve-never-seen-this-before events of the 2024 campaign, here’s one more potentially decisive factor to add: A sitting vice president has become the “change” candidate.

It’s almost a violation of the laws of the political universe. By definition, a vice president looking to inherit the Oval Office has been part of the outgoing administration, and there’s only so much distance that a vice president can credibly put between them and their boss. (Often they try to find a way to praise what has happened, while hinting that things will be different, as when George H.W. Bush urged voters to “choose the horse that’s going the same way,” even as he’d pursue “a kinder, gentler nation.”)

But this time, the sudden elevation of Kamala Harris, along with the identity and character of her opponent, has — for now at least — made her the candidate who embodies change, no matter how little her policies differ from the current president. That this happened by accident rather than design does not make it any less potent as a political asset.

And worst of all for Donald Trump, it deprives him of one his greatest powers. Trump rode to the presidency in 2016 on a promise to smash the status quo. Now he faces credible charges that he represents the past — and there’s a telegenic, younger contender eager to make that case.

Some time before November I want to see political commentary articles (like this one) where Republicans finally start admitting that they aren't going to vote for Chump. They don't want him back in the White House.

In the meantime, this is a good start.

Time for old white guys, no matter how incredibly competent (and would win) one of them was, to step aside for a younger candidate. She is the change. Trump is the old way. Get him out, bring her in.

Yes, he had a bit of cognitive problems recently, but he was still quite able to function very well in his job

3. And he did a damn good job, too! ESPECIALLY following the donald.

He beat trump in 2020, depriving the big yellow blowhard of a second term. Biden lifted us UP, and OUT of the mess that the orange guy left us in. And THANK YOU, DEAR GOD!!!

Let's extend that trend in 2024! Hey, I kinda like that! "Extend that Trend in 2024!"

4. Ok, I called him incredibly competent

and said he would win. Where are you getting a lack of respect? Because I said he was old? In my family, seeking a 4-year difficult job when you are 81 qualifies as being possibly a tad old for the job. I'm sorry if I offended you by my praise of Joe.

5. What bothered me was not saying he's old, but saying "get him out"

However as I look at it again , you may have been referring to Trump when you said that. So perhaps I owe you an apology.

Three weeks after Biden steps down is a little late to be saying "get him out," and the sentence came immediately after a reference to trump.
