BTRTN: The Polling Verdict on Biden

"As for the polls, they have been, in our view, bad for Biden, though perhaps not completely disastrous. And, of course, individual polls have varied enough to give everyone a particular poll to hang onto to support their perspective, although some of those defending Biden have taken the tack of dismissing the polls entirely. And maybe we should. While the polls are bad, the real issue is whether Biden is capable of winning given his obvious communication difficulties.

Let’s summarize the polling results..."

Yes. It has a substantial readership and is highly rated. But that's not the point. The point is I am entitled to my opinions. I choose to express them in article form. You can take them or leave them from there as you wish.

You've posted 19,000 times on DU. Am I to believe you that in none of them you expressed a personal opinion? Of course you have. Probably 18,000+ times.

So what's the difference?

The blog is an outlet for my opinions. Its not a commerical endeavor. I'm retired, a student of politics, give talks to activist group about the election (gratis), do polling analysis and give my opinions. What does it matter that it is a blog? Would you feel better if I copied the entire article in, without the link?

Plenty of commentators are posted on DU. Some people hate their opinions, some people love them. Comes with the territory. If you can't tolerate negative feedback, maybe you shouldn't post.

…point by point to an unceasing firehose of sewage is not even rational.

So you had one non-debate with a madman. You try it.

Then you had a speech at NATO. It was “scripted” — so sue me. It was very well-received by our allies.

Then you had a press conference on foreign policy in which neither the questions nor answers were scripted. In particular, Mr. Sanger asked a long, detailed, and multi-faceted question. Were you able to follow it all the way to the end and remember each detail? I watched Biden do that, actually, and he answered each facet in detail. In addition he not only called Sanger by his correct name, but remembered his specialty in journalism and gave him a compliment.

Then there was the rally in Motown, which you claim you watched. It was great stuff and the audience loved him. Even Sign language interpreter #1 was so excited he couldn’t stop grinning.

So is this a bad ratio? Nothin’ but terrible, horrible, no good, very bad days ahead?

And one more thing. Did you see this from The Jerusalem Post? Biden is brokering a peace deal.

Jeez-louise, and this is just in a week or two.

Turns out he had TWENTY campaign appearances in 2 weeks. What’s the ratio on that?

https://www.newsweek.com/should-biden-step-down-voters-vs-elites-1924787

Consider what we've seen from Biden recently. As we wrote, President Biden appears to be recovering his mojo after his disastrous debate; with the triumphant hosting of NATO leaders in DC and the stream of successfully unscripted public exchanges across prominent TV interviews, donor calls, and an effective hour-long press conference along with 20 demanding campaign appearances around the nation in two weeks. While he has visibly aged, and cannot run a 5 minute mile anymore; his mental acuity and ability to govern are readily apparent for all to see. Biden is hardly giving any new ammunition to his critics.

In what many expected would be the most challenging appearance, this week's press conference at the NATO Summit, Biden spoke extemporaneously and thoughtfully for over an hour, well past his supposed bedtime of 8 pm. More than proving his competence, cognitive acuity, and knowledge, Biden's sagacious wisdom was on full display as he riffed impressively about foreign policy challenges as varied as fortifying Pacific alliances, countering China's rise, supporting Ukraine against Putin, a possible ceasefire in Gaza, peace in the Mideast, not to mention economic prosperity and domestic policy wins, all while engaging in witty repartees with journalists ranging from New York Times foreign policy correspondent David Sanger to foreign press from Poland.

You’ve curated them to match your predetermined outcome, which is that you don't like Biden and wish we could have someone else as our candidate.

Good luck with that fantasy about replacing Biden/Harris. It doesn’t work that way, and if for some reason the Party lost its mind and got rid of him, RW champagne corks would be popping from coast to coast and the media and politicians would be rolling out their already-made plans for destroying the Dem replacement.

Did you even bother to watch the rally in Detroit yesterday? The venue was packed with voters chanting their enthusiasm for Biden and he was in rare form. It’s online. Have a look.

A mix of good days, bad days and disastrous days is a recipe for disaster. Biden was good in NC and Detroit. He was barely adequate with Stephonopoulus and the NATO presser (the Putin intro/VP Trump gaffes killed him at the latter, that was the lede). He was a volcano-sized disaster at teh debate. Good rallies, reading off teleprompters, are not going to change anyone's mind. We've got four months people. His gaffes overwhelm the message.

to keep them off the ballot. Some judge will accept the suits and they'll go winding through the court system while precious time is wasted. What's your plan when there is a bruising fight over who the nominee should be? One of the big donors wants Kamala replaced. What if that happens? Tell me your plan.

his entire life, including his political career? You don't have any credibility whatsoever if you think Biden's stammering, stuttering, and gaffing are signs of "senility." I am probably older than you, and I have known this about Biden from the beginning.

Furthermore, Biden's NATO press conference was mostly NOT scripted AT ALL. His remarks at the beginning were, but not the questions from the reporters. Biden's remarks, which were complex, accurate, and thoughtful, are apparently way over your head, just like with the vast majority of the reporters in that room. His answers are not those of a "senile" man. Biden is way more intelligent than so-called political "experts," reporters, and pundits give him credit for.

His answers to the questions were better than his prepared remarks. You can't dismiss this and have any credibility at all.
