Throwing Jesus under the bus, Evangelical leaders stoop as low as possible to support Trump

https://signalpress.blogspot.com/2024/06/throwing-jesus-under-bus-to-support.html

"How can anyone suggest, with a straight face, that the serial adulterer, never ask for forgiveness, lying, cheat, insurrectionist is anything like Jesus?"

"The attempt to turn Trump into some kind of messiah figure smacks of desperation and idolatry," said Dr. Susan Shaw, professor of women's studies at Oregon State University and an ordained Baptist minister. "It suggests that its purveyor knows so little about the Jesus of the New Testament that he can't recognize his antithesis in Trump. Or perhaps, to be more cynical, he's so hungry for power he's willing to see Trump as his savior in a quest to hold onto the dominance of white, cisgender, heterosexual masculinity," she said.

Among Evangelicals who have led the church straight down the path to apostasy with the heresy of Christian nationalism and the insertion of right wing politics into the pulpit, no organization can take more credit for his horrendous subversion of the Christian gospel than the Heritage Foundation. Calling these people a "think tank" is an oxymoron. They don't think, they abhor and condemn intelligent thought, corrupting everything they touch and promoting a worldview that is as close to barbaric as we've seen since the middle ages.

But if I was in a church and preacher started saying the convicted felon is a man of god I’d have to get up and walk out immediately making a spectacle and saying he is an agent of Satan not God.

But I did leave a luncheon event when the pastor who was invited to lead the prayer worked it in to the prayer. I made a loud noise when everyone was saying amen announced to those I was seated with that I was not going to tolerate that kind of blasphemy in a prayer, and stalked out without paying my check. I doubt anyone was willing to come and track me down.

They'd sell their souls to Satan to be back on top in our culture vs the dustbin of historic barbarism where they belong.

I love to bring up those words in red, the Beatitudes to those to proclaim to be Christians. Most have never heard those words.
Me, I’m a nothing. At least nothing that can be put into words.

https://newrepublic.com/post/174950/christianity-today-editor-evangelicals-call-jesus-liberal-weak

Moore told NPR in an interview released Tuesday that multiple pastors had told him they would quote the Sermon on the Mount, specifically the part that says to “turn the other cheek,” when preaching. Someone would come up after the service and ask, “Where did you get those liberal talking points?”

“What was alarming to me is that in most of these scenarios, when the pastor would say, ‘I’m literally quoting Jesus Christ,’ the response would not be, ‘I apologize.’ The response would be, ‘Yes, but that doesn’t work anymore. That’s weak,’” Moore said. “When we get to the point where the teachings of Jesus himself are seen as subversive to us, then we’re in a crisis.”

...points out where, among Evangelicals, this kind of Trump savior worship has developed, because so many Christians in their churches don't know the Bible, don't pay any attention to the sermons and have no idea what true Christianity looks like, and have never had a real Christian experience.
