Happy Mother's Day, my friends!
but as we know now, everything about that speech was a fucking lie.
there is no modest kitchen Katie Britt lives in a 6,000 square foot mansion. that singsong whisper isnt how Katie actually speaks its a women-should-be-submissive put-on known as the fundy baby voice. and that tale of Biden-enabled sex trafficking? the events took place in Mexico, almost 20 years ago, while George W. Bush was president.
all this establishes Katie Britt as just another bad-faith Republican unashamed to lie out of both sides of her mouth. while were on the subject, heres another lie that Katie and her force-birth cohort love to tell: reproductive rights should be left up to the states.
This is a long intro on Katie Britt, but the real point of Tiedrich's rant is that Britt is now sponsoring a bill to create a FEDERAL DATABASE to collect data on pregnancies nationwide. The implications of this are staggering and mind-blowing ... however I can't see how this would ever pass Congress.
We need to make SURE it never passes Congress by voting out all Repukes this November.

(15,004 posts)I actually think this one will get through to some of them. They want that when their cousin is pregnant? I don't think that's gonna fly.
Think. Again.
(15,684 posts)...where those pregnant women will be housed "for the protection of the innocent child".
What I don't understand is why the rightwingers always want more births.
With religion ( "go forth and multiply" ), it was clear the leaders wanted more warriors to build the cult against competing cults, but unless corporate America has been putting in purchase orders for more minimum wage workers (who will also have to buy the stuff they make), I don't see how the rightwingers plan to profit off an even worse overpopulation problem.

(11,337 posts)Taking away womens rights and forcing them into economic dependence on a man are the goals that motivate them. Predictions that all minorities will number greater than all white people in the future makes them fear that they will lose their white privilege and that minorities will gain political power and treat them as poorly as they have treated minorities all these decades. They also know (or at least their leaders and conspiracy theorists know) that black and brown people have much higher maternal and child death rates than white women. Thus, forcing them to have more babies will result in more deaths for the people they hate.
With their patriarchal worldview, a benefit to having a woman stay at home having babies for several years and gaining no job experience is her difficulty getting a well-paying job if her husband dies or divorces her for a younger model. Thus shes no competition for men in the workplace. They dont care if she lives in poverty because her usefulness as a baby machine has ended.

(34,758 posts)... women in those countries see their standard of living go up - up - up. They are able to complete their education, they can pursue a career for themselves, own property, establish credit, start a business, the possibilities are endless.
Wherever women can't choose ... well, none of these things are open to them. Many of the men who want to force this on women, don't even want the babies. They just want to prevent their women from having choices.
Also, it's handy being able to use "the Bible" as a fallback enforcer.

(33,351 posts)more births = cheap labor
This is what the true capitalists love. Their pyramid scheme (capitalism) functions as designed if there are bunches of low level workers on the bottom creating immense profit for those on the top.
Now what the MAGAts want ... who knows. Maybe more folks to use as cannon fodder when they fight their wars to protect/spread Christianity? That would probably be enough for them to go along with it.

(22,900 posts)They believe humanity is made up of a natural hierarchy, and those on the lower levels owe unquestioning obedience to those above.
Also, they want lots of cheap pliable labor, and know if population declines then workers will have the upper hand. Workers will insist on higher pay and will quit their jobs if not treated well. This happened after the Black Death - survivors called the shots.

(118,054 posts)I read through all the comments, and several things struck me.
Furst, several people mentioned that scumbag rubio apparently introduced this orwellian crap in Jan of 23. huhhhh??
Second, jeff and everyone who is upset/outraged/horrified by this is, according to one comment, overreacting, and making ourselves look silly, just like the "death panel" hysterics. All I will say is, two years post-Dobbs, any reaction less than horrified outrage, and white-hot anger, means one is not paying attention, or is hopelessly optimistic that our christofascist overlord wannabes are not serious.

If this Federal Databank ever goes into effect - and I cannot imagine it ever will - it will mean we're lost in George Orwell's "1984" world.
I think the proposal is absurd, and even the Repukes (the ones who aren't off the deep-end) will realize how crazy it is. It just shows that the RW nutjobs are willing to do anything to get attention.

(1,190 posts)... what is the conservative patriarchy's driving force? TOTAL dominion over the lives of others. Just think Jim Jones on steroids. They are consumed with fear and hatred of the very thought of women achieving true equality, and agency over their own lives, reproductive and otherwise. That is why their campaign of dominance began with the abortion issue. With that as their primary focus, they're able to mask and misdirect attention from their determination to re-establish the subjugation of women to their will, up to, and including, repeal of the 19th Amendment, a woman's right to have her own bank account and credit cards which they've only had since 1974! and to even own property. All of these things have been proposed in public in just the past couple of years.
Now, the mental defectives that still cling to this diseased philosophy are too dirt stupid to realize that they're next. And in true Orwellian fashion, they call such draconian and restrictive intrusions into the private lives of others, "freedom."
And then there's Project 2025. Much like The Project for the New American Century of 20-odd years ago, they use bland language to make their monstrous schemes sound reasonable. They are not. Even a cursory reading of the elevator pitch for Project 2025 makes "A Handmaid's Tale" sound like a Sesame Street skit.
Do not dismiss these people; they mean everything they say. The Republican Party has never been the party of good intentions, but now it has metastasized into a domestic terrorist organization, and we are ALL in their crosshairs.

(34,758 posts)... they just want to do anything they can to "own the libtards."
This is what my Mom (long departed) would have said ... "They're cutting off their nose to spite their face." It's a stupid bill that won't make anyone happy and it would end up being a disaster for everyone.
