Trump promised to scrap climate laws if US oil bosses donated $1bn - report

Trump promised to 20 executives at Mar-a-Lago dinner to increase oil drilling and reverse pollution rules among other pitches
Donald Trump dangled a brazen deal in front of some of the top US oil bosses last month, proposing that they give him $1bn for his White House re-election campaign and vowing that once back in office he would instantly tear up Joe Bidens environmental regulations and prevent any new ones, according to a bombshell new report.
According to the Washington Post, the former US president made his jaw-dropping pitch, which the paper described as remarkably blunt and transactional, at a dinner at his Mar-a-Lago home and club.
In front of more than 20 executives, including from Chevron, Exxon and Occidental Petroleum, he promised to increase oil drilling in the Gulf of Mexico, remove hurdles to drilling in the Alaskan Arctic, and reverse new rules designed to cut car pollution. He would also overturn the Biden administrations decision in January to pause new natural gas export permits which have been denounced as climate bombs.
(snip)
Trumps exhortation to the oil executives that they were wealthy enough to pour $1bn into his campaign war-chest, at the same time pledging a U-turn on Bidens efforts to combat the climate crisis, was immediately denounced on Wednesday by environmental groups.

(38,902 posts)Put me in the Oval Office and I will make you richer than you already are. Ill destroy Medicare, social security, meals on wheels and any other obstacles to your getting a larger yacht. I will do all this because you and I have conservative values. And there is no reason I should be prosecuted for crimes I have committed.
I am unapologetic at stating conservative values are malignant cancers that will destroy freedom and democracy and liberty and Justice for all.
I do, however, apologize to English Teachers everywhere.

But if that were something, Mardi Lardo would have a stationary F5 taking care of evil, when the billionaire parties are going on.

No way he's going to win his half-a-billion case on appeal and someone in his cult of sycophants must have told him to kiss that bundle and the one he owes to E.J. Carroll goodbye, so he's trying to sell the planet's future to his effin billionaires' club.

Yeah, therell be more about this, for sure - as more news sources pick up on it.
I found it fascinating that, when this story first broke, you basically had The Guardian on it and everything else I googled was from weeks ago (so it really didnt address what had just happened). But by the end of the day? DAYUM! EVERYBODYs on it! All writethrus were dated by so many HOURS ago, not weeks.

(2,185 posts)do they get their money back? A billion dollars is a mighty high bet that he will win. He can't buy the votes of sane and rational Americans no matter how much he spends on campaigning. There will be NO new voters going his way. And what if he has a mental breakdown and becomes a gibbering vegetable (more of one) before the election. Do they get it back then? They would be fools to take him up on this. Hm, wait.

(219 posts)It sure looks like Trump committed another crime by promising to use the power of the presidency to take official acts in exchange for payments to his campaign (https://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/18/201). He just thinks he is above the law and should be able to do as he pleases.
