Exclusive: Conservatives plan nationwide protest against AI data centers

A conservative group seeking stricter rules on AI is organizing a day of protest against data centers across the country next month, the group told Axios exclusively.
Why it matters: Republicans in Washington are trying to pay attention to Americans' concerns over AI's impacts while supporting U.S. advancements in the technology.
Driving the news: Humans First, a conservative organization that says it is fighting for an "America First AI policy," is planning a "Nationwide Day of Protest" against what it describes as the "unchecked expansion of AI data centers" on July 18.
The group said rallies are currently set for at least 13 locations across Georgia, California, Texas, Florida and Virginia. According to Humans First, the protests are meant to "give grassroots Americans, particularly grassroots conservatives, a voice in the critical debate over policies relating to the building of massive AI data centers."
What they're saying: "I was one of the earliest leaders of the Tea Party movement in 2009, and I can tell you that the disconnect between the elites and the base that gave rise to the Tea Party movement can be seen today in the battle over AI data centers," Amy Kremer, chair of Humans First, said in a statement.

(6,019 posts)that Tech Bros have bought the Child Rapist in Chief, lock, stock, and barrel, right?
Do they understand that according to their god opposition to AI makes them "anti-tech terrorists" and the FBI will be investigating them?

(3,681 posts)Well how about that!
Americans being shot down in the streets, open racism in the government, wars of choice, torture and rape of children, starving out children, locking families in concentration camps, etc, etc, etc. But all it takes is the threat of conservatives having lousy water and higher electric prices and their sorry, selfish asses are out protesting everywhere.

(4,073 posts)on both sides can agree and work together to fight. I can't stand putrid MAGAt's anymore than most of you. This conservative group is self admittedly part of the embryonic MAGA stage which makes it even more suspect and needs to be countered with a unifying message from us. They're going to use this I'm telling you.
IMO, If we we want to make any kind of in roads back into the rural small town space this is one we can work on, mainly with right leaning Independents and center right republicans. I don't care what anyone says, at some point we are going to have to swing into these independent right leaning and center right republican voters hard in order to save our country. I'm not talking about the fully brainwashed racists, screw them, they need to be sent back into their own dark corner (they will never go away)
A move like this in the OP is a strategic move by the greater repuke party to keep ahold of the "leftist elite" BS they've been puking out for most of this century. If we aren't careful they will figure out how to side step it, BS it and lay it at the Democrats feet, trust me. There's already seeds being planted in the SM space by right wing actors on the repuke machines behalf.
I'm not saying embrace them but I am saying this an issue that will feed right into the affordability issue overall that these slick tonged snake oil salesmen on the far right will try and out maneuver us. There is BIG BIG money in this data center space and local politics on BOTH SIDES are susceptible to massive corruption. If these guys get a hold of some specific ones with Democrats selling out they will use their giant magafone to yell it loud.
The chess game of 2028 has started and the first pawn has been moved, IMHO

(39,346 posts)Their desire to coopt this issue exceeds their actual concerns over Data Centers.
