When word dropped that Palm Beach International Airport would change its name to honor President Donald Trump, some of the Florida facility’s frequent fliers had thoughts.

Angry thoughts.

Exasperated thoughts.

Violent thoughts.


“I will never fly in or out of this pathetic, ass-kissing airport again once you change the name to honor the most corrupt, incompetent, disastrous moron to ever hold the office,”............

“I will never again utilize PBI for any travel plans now that it is named for the orange headed clown,” another traveler wrote.

These comments are among dozens of missives sent by outraged patrons through Palm Beach International Airport’s website since March, when Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis signed a bill that renamed the facility “President Donald J. Trump International Airport.” ............

.................., “To rename its airport after Trump, Palm Beach had to license his name.”

“Trump Airport…FUCK YOU. Should be Palm Bitch … once this asshole is gone…you will all look like fools,” another wrote May 7.................

Nearly all the Trump-related comments Palm Beach International Airport received in March, April and the first half of May opposed or criticized the airport’s name change, according to the records NOTUS obtained.............

A man named John congratulated the airport for being renamed after a felon. “You must be so proud!! USA!! USA!!” he wrote on May 7, punctuating his message with an American flag, heart and fist bump emoji.

It’s only 20 minutes from my son’s house. Fort Lauderdale is 1.5 hours away and a PITA to navigate. Would love to know how much county officials were bribed because Palm Beach County is one of the rare blue places in the state.

The Trumps won’t profit from airport-branded merchandise sold on site. But the agreement doesn’t prevent them from profiting off such items sold elsewhere.

Commissioners in Palm Beach County, Fla., approved a trademark and licensing agreement with President Trump’s family business on Tuesday, a step required to rename Palm Beach International Airport as President Donald J. Trump International Airport.

Gov. Ron DeSantis, a Republican, signed legislation in March to rename the airport that Mr. Trump flies in and out of on his way to and from his nearby Mar-a-Lago estate. The Trump family business had filed to trademark the airport name in February, raising questions about whether the family would profit from the renaming.

Under the new agreement, the Trump family won’t profit from branded merchandise sold at the airport. But the agreement does not prevent the family from profiting off any such merchandise sold outside the airport’s premises, according to Josh Gerben, a trademark lawyer.

It also gives the Trump family control over any biographical material presented at the airport, or on airport materials. And it requires the airport to pick a vendor to provide any branded merchandise from a list approved by the Trump family business.

Mr. Gerben called the agreement “extremely unusual when it comes to an honorary naming of an airport.” He noted that other airports named after presidents, such as Kennedy in New York and Reagan in Washington, do not have licensing agreements with private businesses benefiting those presidents’ families.

Commissioners adopted the agreement by a 4-to-3 vote, with one Democrat joining the three Republicans on the board. It had already been personally signed by Mr. Trump, according to commission meeting documents. It included several potential logos, including one with an eagle that resembles the presidential seal.

At least two commissioners complained about having received the agreement only on Monday.

Hopefully Florida's next Governor will be a Democrat. But even if that doesn't happen, a Repuke could make the change in a heartbeat.
