Iran responds to US ceasefire proposal but Trump rejects it as 'unacceptable'

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — Iran sent its response to the latest U.S. ceasefire proposal via Pakistani mediators and wants negotiations to focus on permanently ending the war, but President Donald Trump quickly rejected it as “TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE!” with no details.

Iran seeks to end the war on all fronts, including in Lebanon, where Israel is fighting the Iranian-backed Hezbollah militant group, and to ensure the security of shipping, state TV said. Washington’s latest proposal addressed a deal to end the war, reopen the Strait of Hormuz and roll back Iran’s nuclear program.

Trump earlier on social media accused Tehran of “playing games” with the United States for nearly 50 years, adding: “They will be laughing no longer!” Trump is giving diplomacy “every chance we possibly can before going back to hostilities,” the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, Mike Waltz, told ABC earlier.

Iran’s new supreme leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, who has not been seen or heard publicly since the war began, “issued new and decisive directives for the continuation of operations and the powerful confrontation with the enemies” while meeting with the head of the joint military command, the state broadcaster reported, with no details.

The US isn't going to concede control of the Straits to them, the US isn't going to pull its military out of the Middle East, and the US isn't going to pay any reparations to Iran.

They're going to have to get a lot more realistic if they want a peace plan.

Did anyone tell you who started it? Did anyone mention Mosaddegh, and the US/UK coup in 1953? The reality is the exact opposite of what you claim, you ignorant twat.

Why?

Iran is indeed playing games – and winning.

Trump is at the disadvantage; this is his failed, illegal war of choice and he’s stuck in it, the consequence of Trump's arrogance, ignorance, and stupidity – and Iran will continue to exploit Trump’s incompetence.

On one hand he doesn't want to look weak and have Fox News say this wasn't worth it. On the other, this blew up in his face and wants out. Only you can't declare bankruptcy and wipe your hands of the situation.

He got conned by Israel and war hawks in his admin who totally mis read the situation. Real question comes to this, what does he do after the Mid Terms? After that point, he could follow through with troops going in to get the uranium. But that is a gamble, they could go in, take heavy casualties and find out it's no longer where they thought it was. It could be legacy killing worse than it is now.

This is basically open economic warfare. Yes, all warfare is economic in nature but this different. This is war aimed at maintaining a tottering system of economic transactions that, despite claims to the contrary, does not function in the manner that supporters claim. Capitalist supporters will make claims that capitalism “lifts people out of poverty”. What it actually does is lock people into economic castes with little social mobility change. Some can move up and some will move down. Furthermore, globalization is not going away. It is shifting but it is not going away. This has been and will continue to put pressure on the concept of the nation-state in general and the large scale geographic/population nation state.

Imo, a key failure is the concept of development which has been driven by the Western/global North policy and belief structures. Hubris and chauvinism have driven and are driving the world down a catastrophic path. In many ways, other countries have much to blame themselves. The PRC’s unstated goal is not domination or some belief that China should be reassuming what they were centuries ago before the West raised havoc there. It is instead maintaining the dominant position of the Party.

We are in the midst of tectonic shifting and there are few nation-state leaders that are capable and competent enough to deal with this.
