Workers at a Greeley meatpacking plant have a tentative deal in place on a new collective bargaining agreement, ending weeks of friction with management of the JBS USA.
In a press release Friday, United Food and Commercial Workers Local 7 announced that a tentative agreement on a new collective bargaining agreement was reached and would be presented to membership for a vote this Sunday.
Thousands of employees at the Swift Beef Co. plant went on strike March 16 in an effort to secure higher wages, safer working conditions and improved health care. The strike lasted three weeks before employees agreed to return to work while negotiations resumed.
The tentative agreement comes after two days of negotiations following the parties return to the bargaining table after a historic three-week Unfair Labor Practice strike, during which Local 7 members demonstrated extraordinary courage, unity, and resolve on the picket line, Local 7 spokesperson Carla Wyatt said in a press release.
