'Insane Claim': Conservatives Call Out DHS Second Amendment Hypocrisy -- Amid Claims Man Shot and Killed Was

Source: MEDIAite

Some conservatives were quick to push back on the Department of Homeland Security’s claims following a 37-year-old man being shot and killed. A Minnesota resident — identified by the Minnesota Star Tribune as Alex Jeffrey Pretti — was shot and killed by federal agents in Minneapolis on Saturday morning. Footage from the scene showed officers tussling with Pretty before multiple shots go off. The man was later declared dead.

DHS claimed in their statement about the event that the man had been armed and acted as a threat to agents who were conducting an operation in the area. “The officers attempted to disarm the suspect but the armed suspect violently resisted. More details on the armed struggle are forthcoming. Fearing for his life and the lives and safety of fellow officers, an agent fired defensive shots,” they said.

DHS said the suspect had two magazines and no ID. They posted a picture of the pistol the suspect allegedly had and claimed he wanted to cause “maximum damage and massacre law enforcement.”

Some conservatives and Second Amendment activists, however, questioned whether a rush to judgement was being made about a lawful gun owner. Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara said at a press conference that authorities believes the suspect was a “lawful gun owner.”

I expect it will grow quickly. Aaron Parnas notes there is an emerging rift between Repubs who are Pro-Second Amendment and Repubs who are Pro-Trump.

Parkrose Permacuture included a clip of him in her video, "Two Significant moves in Congress today in response to Alex's murder by DHS".

My opinion….I understand it’s a strange bedfellows thing but any statements questioning the DHS lies are a positive development.

isn't necessarily a deep magat. Or a magat at all. That's a mischaracterization built upon the quirks of human thinking.

We tend to think in two incorrect ways. Everyone is like us or like them (magats), in group / out group. And everyone must fit into the discrete boxes we've created. It's natural for humans to think that way, I do it myself all the time, and is for the most part inaccurate. Outside of some physical properties, the world really doesn't work that way and neither do humans.

The world is a continuum as are most American's thoughts and ideas. Sometimes varying bell shapes along that continuum, sometimes not, but always shifting and changing as current events and long term trends mold attitudes. That's why we're often surprised when someone holds a certain belief we don't expect. Our expectations are based on the inaccurate way humans see the world.

I think we'll be surprised at who are friends are after this latest atrocity and who aren't.

They carry for a variety of reasons, with hunting for food at the top of the list. Protection for themselves and family is probably second. To my surprise, only a few of them were Trump voters. I’ve learned a lot about not judging a book by its cover when it comes to gun ownership. One gun owner I know is a woman in Maine who helps provide her family with venison every season and who plans to enter the moose lottery. She is a gentle, kind person.

Hope I didn’t get too far off track here.

In short, it's way more complicated than we generally think.

And I, a white guy, am often a minority there. Lots of Black, Asian and Hispanic shooters. And lots of women; often half the shooters on any given day are women.

I'm sure plenty are conservatives, but I don't think I've ever seen a MAGA hat present.

Also, i am curious about this "he had no ID." How did they identify him so soon if he had no ID on him?

but the gun advocates just saw what could be a (pun intended) "shot across the bow" after having DHS claim that because he had a gun on him (which some reports indicated was legally obtained and he was licensed to carry), that he was going to cause mayhem.

I.e., that group has always been afraid of someone "taking their guns away" and they just saw what justification could be used to do that and more - shot on sight as "self defense" (and coming from their OWN side).
