RNC clears the way for "midterm convention" later this year

Source: msn/CBS News

12h

Santa Barbara, California — The Republican National Committee on Friday voted to amend its bylaws to clear the way for a GOP "midterm convention" ahead of November's elections. Party conventions are typically only held in presidential election years, but President Trump and his senior advisers have been pushing for such a gathering to highlight the party's agenda heading into a challenging midterm election environment.

Friday's vote, at the RNC's winter meeting in sunny Santa Barbara, California, removes procedural hurdles for the party to move forward. The measure passed unanimously by voice vote.

Two cities are currently being floated to host the convention: Dallas and Las Vegas. A senior GOP source said the convention would likely take place in early fall, rather than during the summer, when presidential-nominating conventions typically occur.

"If we're going to defy history, we got to do things outside the box, and one of the things is highlighting all the great things the president has done over the first year," RNC Chairman Joe Gruters said in a brief interview with CBS News. "There is no better way than to tell the American people all the great things the president has done than over a convention. It has never been done before."

All they want to do is "rally" and will co-opt the airwaves to show it. Most people do think politics is "boring" and just a dedicated bunch actually watch regular presidential conventions.

Chair person: All in favor say "Aye."
Multiple voices: AYE!
Chair person: All opposed say "No."
*crickets*
Chair person: The motion passes unanimously! *bangs gavel*

I'm not at all surprised that it passed unimously. Republicans are very, very worried about the midterms!

Dominion Voting Systems Corporation was a North American[2] company that produced and sold electronic voting hardware and software, including voting machines and tabulators, in Canada and the United States.[3]

In 2025, Scott Leiendecker purchased the company under a new company called Liberty Vote. He says election integrity will improve through this system, and even though Biden won in 2020, and Dominion won defamation cases against Newsmax, Fox, Trump and Giuliani, I still have my doubts for 2026 and 2028, which is why we need some people at that conference, to sniff out the IT staff and talk of battleground election plans.

uploading/downloading capability with Starlink) so that the GOP can have more campaign confidence that their bacon will be saved.

They are never ever doing what they narrate to their base. They never tell the whole truth or mean what they say.

Again, we need eyes there to get back to us what their operational plans are, and who made the decisions.
Why? Because this has major legal ramifications, as Jack Smith was only able to partially prove.

I'd love for EFF and Chris Krebs to get some people in there.

Holding an official pep rally later this year tells me one thing, that their internal polling, the ones that Trump says are the real polls, portent doom for the party in November.

The question now is, will it help? Will the American voters see the pomp and balloon drops and forget about the economy, Epstein, and armed soldiers patrolling the streets? Will they ignore the lunacy and incompetence of RFK Jr, ICE Barbie, and Greg Bovino?

I think that depends on the Democrats. We have to hammer them on their faults and awaken the voters before November. Make them look past the back slapping rallies and cable news appearances and vote with their heads, not their hearts.

and we will do what? Silently sit by or tsk tsk?

I actually agree with them. We have to do things outside the box this year and do it especially well. People aren’t bored this year; they are ANGRY, and if we don’t take this opportunity to turn their anger into votes, then shame on us. If news organizations are going to send reporters and cameras to the Republicans, then we must demand equal time. And yes, I challenge our leaders to gather us all together and show the country who can bring the biggest crowds.

They will probably be planning their counter media narratives to "flood the zone" with AI generated memes about opposition candidates and ballot measures. ICE has already bragged that "the memes will continue." So they are quite aware of the importance of spreading such technologically assisted lies to shape public opinion to try to skew the midterm elections in their favor. Plus they probably do have plans to challenge election results in districts with MAGA judges. They are desperate and there is nothing they won't do to mess with the midterms. And it has been said before that Trump may even sic ICE goons on polls under the pretext of election security saying they suspect illegal aliens are voting.

Not because the GOP is, but because it is important to build a clear brand and to show that this really is a NATIONAL party. Tip O'Neill famously said, "All Politics is local." That was never really true, and I doubt that Tip really meant it literally. After all, Watergate and Vietnam were huge national issues that heavily affected every race. Sure, there can be local issues that heavily influence Senate and House races. And the charisma and "machine" built by a long-serving candidate can go a long way, if you want to call that "local".

But now, especially in a world where national and global news travels in milliseconds, and what happens in Minnesota or Ukraine can affect us all next week or next month, it is vital that we leave that archaic proposition behind. We MUST have a national brand because people are increasingly facing NATIONAL PROBLEMS. The runaway cost of HC is a national problem. The billionaire oligarchs driving a vast transfer of wealth away from the middle class is a national (and global) problem. ICE is a national problem. The failure of our judicial system is a national problem. The failure of Congress to provide a Constitutional check on a rogue President is a national problem.

We should have convention leading to the mid-terms. The problem is that there is no national Democratic leader, by office or de facto. The closest thing we have to a national leader is Newsom, but many would reject that. So, lacking a single recognized leader, how could we hold a powerful convention that would inspire the public to trust that electing Democrats across the board would truly help counter the evils that are going on with this administration?

That's a big problem, but if we don't solve that somehow, in November we may look pretty aimless and ineffective to the voting public.
