PIERCE COUNTY, Wash. — Traffic on northbound Interstate 5 slowed to a crawl after 21 cars were involved in a crash early Monday just south of the King-Pierce County line.

Washington State Patrol Trooper Cameron Watts said initially, the incident was called out at 5:05 a.m. as a 10-car crash caused by debris on the road, but quickly escalated to 20 vehicles, with the final count at 21.

Initially, all lanes were blocked, but all lanes had reopened by 9 a.m.

Multiple cars with flat tires were pulled over to the right shoulder until tow trucks could take them away.
