Trump threatens to use the Insurrection Act to end protests in Minneapolis
Source: Associated Press
President Donald Trump on Thursday threatened to invoke an 1807 law and deploy troops to quell persistent protests against the federal officers sent to Minneapolis to enforce his administrations massive immigration crackdown.
The threat comes a day after a man was shot and wounded by an immigration officer who had been attacked with a shovel and broom handle. That shooting further heightened the fear and anger that has radiated across the city since an Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent fatally shot Renee Good in the head.
Trump has repeatedly threatened to invoke the Insurrection Act, a rarely used federal law, to deploy the U.S. military or federalize the National Guard for domestic law enforcement, over the objections of state governors.

(48,941 posts)I wonder if the states need something else. I thought a few red states already did (don't tread on me and all that).

Surprised AP didn't say ICE "allegedly" shot someone who attacked him (in the "known fact" sense). That would be par for them

It ended in a crash and the driver was joined by two more people who all attacked the officer,"
and then
Seems pretty fucking unlikely the situation is properly called an "ambush", unless the pathological liars at DHS are suggesting that the VZ national somehow purposefully got himself involved in an ICE pursuit so he could drive them to where his co-conspirators were lying in wait, who were armed only with household tools readily available to most people in the area
ETA: Frankly the whole thing sounds like complete bullshit. In what universe does a LONE ICE officer engage in the vehicular pursuit of an alleged illegal Venezuelan fleeing arrest, and wind up confronting them alone? Normally they "deploy" about 20 heavily-armed agents to apprehend an 80 pound, 70 year old Mexican lady selling churros in the Home Depot parking lot.
I ain't buying one word of DHS's bullshit accounts of ANYTHING

Minnesota is a test case--how far do they have to go to force the populace to defend themselves. This business of going house to house is going to get people killed on both sides. I suspect that's the insurrection game plan. Coming to a blue state near you.
