Prosecutors Said to Pursue New Investigation of Letitia James

Federal prosecutors are investigating financial transactions involving the New York attorney general, Letitia James, and her longtime hairdresser, opening a new front in their pursuit of one of President Trumps perceived enemies, according to people with knowledge of the matter.
The hairdresser, Iyesata Marsh, has known Ms. James for years. Last month, Ms. Marsh was indicted in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Louisiana and charged with bank fraud and aggravated identity theft in connection with the purchase of a Land Rover about three years ago. Court documents accuse Ms. Marsh and her nephew of using the identity and personal information of an unidentified woman in Ohio to buy the vehicle.
The investigation is still in its early stages, but prosecutors are interested in talking to Ms. Marsh about past financial transactions involving Ms. James or her campaign, according to people familiar with the matter who spoke on the condition of anonymity to describe the inquiry.
The new front in the Justice Departments long-running campaign to build a criminal case against Ms. James shows that the efforts extend beyond one federal prosecutors office, and highlight the degree to which investigators are scouring her professional, personal and political life for evidence of wrongdoing.

What next?
Ms. James was seen entering the store and eventually giving money to someone standing behind a cash register. She then exited, carrying several items of clothing with the store tags still attached.

He was supposedly "appointed" by Bondi as part of a bundle of 3 nominees this past September but according to the Senate record, the nominations weren't acted on and were "returned to the President" (per their Rule), meaning a need for "renomination" in this year. Meanwhile, Bondi swore him in before they even acted on this.

This is the Senate Rule -
Summary
Nominations that have been neither confirmed nor rejected by the Senate at the time the Senate adjourns sine die or for a period of more than 30 days are returned to the President pursuant to Senate Rule XXXI, clause 6. Pro forma sessions held during a recess of the Senate count as days in session and can prevent what would otherwise be a greater than 30-day recess that would trigger the return of nominations under the rule. The use of pro forma sessions in modern Senate practice means that the need to suspend Rule XXXI usually only occurs at the end of the 1st session of a Congress.
(snip)
I know there were a pile of rejiggering of the handling of nominations this past fall in the Senate so I don't know if he did get bundled into a unanimous consent to suspend the Rule or what. But if not, then he would be another bogus "appointee" and would only be "Acting".

(11,694 posts)I thought it was unethical, if not illegal, for a prosecutor to go off on fishing expeditions looking for crimes?
It's one thing if she were arrested but that isn't what happened here.
This is an incredibly slippery slop to be dancing on. This is the very definition of "weaponized government prosecution".
