Jeffries calls Noem a liar: 'No evidence' to justify Minneapolis ICE shooting

Source: The Hill

01/07/26 7:08 PM ET

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) on Wednesday slammed Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem over the fatal shooting of a woman by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officer in Minneapolis.

“There’s no evidence that has been presented to justify the shooting of an unarmed woman in Minneapolis. The so-called Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem has zero credibility,” Jeffries told The Hill’s sister network NewsNation.

“She’s a stone-cold liar. We’ve got to make sure that the rogue ICE agent who pulled the trigger resulting in the death of an American citizen is criminally investigated to the full extent of the law,” he added.

The Trump administration has supported the ICE officer who shot and killed the woman while she was inside her vehicle.

Growing up is hard to do
PUBLISHED: September 12, 2000 at 12:00 AM EDT

NEW YORK — So when he was a kid, George W. enjoyed putting firecrackers into frogs, throwing them in the air, and then watching them blow up. Should this be cause for alarm? How relevant is a man’s childhood behavior to what he is like as an adult? And in this case, to what he would be like as president of the United States.

Cruelty to animals is a common precursor to later criminal violence. But in rural West Texas, where George W. grew up, it was not uncommon for some boys to indulge in such cruelty.

His blowing up frogs or shooting them with BB guns with friends does not have the same significance it would have if, for example, a city boy blew up the family cat. In fact, George’s childhood friend, Terry Throckmorton, openly and laughingly admits, “We were terrible to animals.”

But there were surely many boys in George’s hometown of Midland, Texas, who would have been repelled at the thought of blowing up frogs. So how much importance should we attribute to this early behavior?

That is interesting. Seeing as how I was under the impression that one of your main jobs as our government was to PROTECT THE PEOPLE FROM BEING KILLED BY WHAT AMOUNTS TO A ENTITLED, SPOILED, RICH TODDLER'S TANTRUMS!

I don't suppose you have heard of the saying, 'an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure'? Probably not, as this nation is more interested in what they can make from the pound of cure rather than making sure things don't happen in the first place. Hell, there is no real money to be made from 'prevention'!

But I guess that is too much to ask? Since the current situation shows no indication of stopping, I guess we just prefer it that way.

I hate to tell you, but this requires a response. One that displays how far we are willing to go, since they have shown us how far they are willing to go.

And...?

We need action against this attack on our citizen. I will complain about this until it happens. I will demand it until it happens.

It is not 'trashing Democrats'. It is demanding action. I am sorry that this scares you, but we had the chance to lock those animals up four years ago and we didn't. Now, we have to decide if our nation is worth the effort.

Is it? (Gods, I always thought so.) Because not going after those animals in the same way they went after that woman is tantamount to not doing anything. When your dog tries to bite someone, are you going to sit and explain to them that they should not do that and you hope that this discussion will help them avoid future situations, or do you pop them on the nose so that they understand that they should not do it? Because I have yet to see a pet 'learn its lesson' without learning what consequence means. And, they only understand one thing. These two-legged animals are no different.

I know you will disagree. I am glad you can. Disagreeing is what leads us to solutions, because that creates debate which creates a space for all the 'chaff' to be removed from the ideas until we derive a decent, equitable solution. Blindly just saying someone or some party is always correct and always doing what is best without examination, no matter what they do (or don't do), is what the other side does. That removes the ability to have any discussions in the first place. You like being able to have such discussions, I hope.

Because that right is next, mark my words.

Law enforcement would have done no less to anyone else should such a situation occur.

Why not him???

Why is he not being held over this? Or, is this crap about 'laws' just a smokescreen to keep us from stopping this crap from going any further?

Either we follow the law, or we don't. This 'application when it is convenient' thing is just destroying what little faith this nation has in its 'laws'.

incarcerate anyone?

I agree 100% that the murderer should have been arrested on the spot instead of being allowed to get away scot free. But Hakeem Jeffries cannot do that, obviously.

This is why I object to your criticizing him about this. Where were the Minneapolis police? For that matter, where are the police in any city where citizens are being abused by ICE?

has normalized this. Maybe a sharp story or two, then they move on to the next click bait. Russian/Billionaire backed social media is now the source of "news" these days, and it either fires up the Right, or buries the Left in vitriol.

We have almost no clout in any of these venues.

She was simply at the wrong place at the wrong time. Can't have that, though.
