Hegseth initiates ban on transgender troops after Supreme Court ruling

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, acting swiftly on this week’s Supreme Court order permitting the Trump administration to ban transgender troops from the military, said Thursday that those service members will have between 30 and 60 days to leave voluntarily or be forced out.

“This is the president’s agenda, this is what the American people voted for,” Hegseth said on social media announcing his directive, which is expected to bring an abrupt end to the careers of potentially thousands of service members.

About 1,000 troops have self-identified as having a diagnosis of gender dysphoria, the Pentagon said in a statement accompanying Hegseth’s memo to senior military leaders, but advocates for transgender service members have said the number is higher. It was not immediately clear from the guidance Hegseth issued Thursday how the Pentagon may attempt to remove any transgender troops who have not disclosed such a diagnosis.

1. Be warned

So, as I understand it, the whole "DEI" thing is bad to this administration and they want a meritocracy style approach to hiring and promotions. Apparently the only place this isn't true is the military. Because if it were true then trans members of the military would be evaluated on the merits of their service record and reviews by their unit leader. If they truly cared about only hiring and promoting the best people then why doesn't that apply to trans members of the military? More importantly, are these people not human beings and citizens of the United States? Why are their rights different? If there is no "DEI" then why are they being singled out for different treatment than others? And you have to ask: Why would they stop there? Can they decide that only Christians can be in the military? Or only straight people are allowed to be in the military? Or only white people are allowed to be in the military? Or only men are allowed to be in the military?
See where I'm going here? What if they decide only Christian, straight, white men are allowed in the military? How, specifically, is that any different than banning trans people? Logically there is no difference. The same core argument could be made in each of the examples given because their argument is bullshit.
