Trump Administration to Cancel Student Visas of Pro-Palestinian Protesters

Source: US News and World Report/Reuters

Jan. 29, 2025, at 10:33 a.m.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) -U.S. President Donald Trump will sign an executive order on Wednesday to combat antisemitism and pledge to deport non-citizen college students and others who took part in pro-Palestinian protests, a White House official said.

A fact sheet on the order promises "immediate action" by the Justice Department to prosecute "terroristic threats, arson, vandalism and violence against American Jews" and marshal all federal resources to combat what it called "the explosion of antisemitism on our campuses and streets" since the Oct. 7, 2023, attack on Israel by Palestinian Islamist group Hamas.

"To all the resident aliens who joined in the pro-jihadist protests, we put you on notice: come 2025, we will find you, and we will deport you," Trump said in the fact sheet.

"I will also quickly cancel the student visas of all Hamas sympathizers on college campuses, which have been infested with radicalism like never before."

Okay, you're trying to bomb the hostage takers.
But you're saying we cannot have a different opinion as to how much is too far to go on bombing when bombing includes killing people with no control over those hostage takers?

that many young people, especially college age, did not vote this time which especially in the swing states could have made a difference.

The idea that only about 7 states determine the outcome of our Presidency speaks to how absurd our election process is these days. The Constitution should be a living document in order to keep our laws and rights current in a changing world.

1968

2024

I wrote an OP about this several weeks analyzing the parallel between 1968 and 2024 which provided the numbers.

LBJ/HH in 1964 huge Dem win. HH/EM in 1968 huge Dem loss. JB/KH in 2020 huge Dem win. KH/TW in 2024 huge Dem loss.

Common factor: US support for an unpopular overseas war.

After 9/11, hating Muslims in America became the trope and hence two costly invasions (Iraq and Afghanistan) and the birth of the DHS. Before 9/11, Americans were sympathetic to Muslims being slaughtered in Bosnia and Kosovo and the US intervened.

Nota Bene: Israelis rescued an elderly Bosnian woman in Sarajevo in 1993 (or 1994) who was one of the Righteous during the Holocaust. A film about this was produced; see story below.

Now some Dems and all Reps seem to be on the same page that the US should be a "Judeo-Christian" nation only while Muslim-Americans make up only 1.1% of the US population.

"Araber raus!"

Trump makes Americans look so weak, so fearful, so unappreciative of the fact that we are a country created and built by immigrants from all over the world. Throughout our history, immigrants seeking a better life have flocked to our shores — reinvigorating our labor force, enriching our cultural fabric, and making our democracy stronger.

He is an embarrassment to our nation.

Republican (and sadly Democratic) Islamophobes love this right-wing talking point that the college protestors were pro-jihad or antisemitic. With all of the shootings in the US and Islamophobia, the students having their visas withdrawn may be better off leaving. Heck, US citizens are looking for ways to escape. Those with Irish ancestry are trying to acquire an Eire passport to get away from #47.

Thanks to Trumpf some Americans considered moving to Canada, but Ottawa has strict immigration laws. Americans may visit for six months at a time, but they cannot work there or receive free medical care. For Spanish speaking Americans, Mexico may be an option, but re-locating and finding a job/home may be difficult.

Bono Fortuna!

I'll have spent near on £10,000 by the time I qualify for permanent residency in the UK and being an immigrant- even a very skilled one- in the UK is pretty shit. I'm overqualified by a mile for my job and make shit money, but it sponsored my visa. So I'm tethered to it. Labour hates immigrants as much as the Tories do, so they've made it just as hard for places to sponsor skilled workers (I have four degrees...)
By the time I'm of retirement age, I'll at least be able to retire somewhere cheap in Italy or elsewhere in the EU on the no money I have anymore. But at least I won't die from lack of healthcare.

According to US Census data, there are 3.6m Arab-Americans in the US. 25% are Lebanese-Americans; 6% are Palestinian-Americans. This amounts to 1.34% of the US population. And not all are of voting age.

Polling shows that in 2024, 21% of Muslim-Americans voted for Donald Trumpf; 20% for Kamala Harris; 59% for Jill Stein.

According to the reputable Jewish Telegraphic Agency (JTA), 21% of Jewish-Americans voted for Trumpf. Anecdotally, I know one of them by their own admission, and I suspect another one (but I can't prove it).

How could any plan that Trumpf proposes be good for the people of the United States of America or the Democratic Party?

He does not qualify this with "who have been convicted of a crime" or even "arrested for a crime"

Constitutional protections of free speech are not just for native-born US citizens - they apply also to visitors from other countries.

Trump is making public expressions of opinion punishable by government action.

Who will be the next target?
