Trump says ICE can arrest people at churches and schools, directs agency to use 'common sense'

Washington CNN — Federal immigration authorities will be permitted to arrest people and carry out enforcement actions in and near places such as churches and schools, marking a departure from long-standing policy to avoid so-called sensitive areas.

Acting Homeland Security Secretary Benjamine Huffman announced the end of two directives in a statement, giving agents more authority over whether they carry out enforcement and eliminating a legal pathway for migrants seeking to come to the United States.

“Criminals will no longer be able to hide in America’s schools and churches to avoid arrest. The Trump Administration will not tie the hands of our brave law enforcement, and instead trusts them to use common sense,” the statement reads.

It’s a key example of how enforcement is going to be different under the new Trump administration from the Biden administration.

He won't get far at all, since the Episcopal Church's position is quite clear. But it would give a sense of how far the rethug religious freedom pearl -clutching bends.

She was the friend of a friend of mine (long departed) from seminary...and not unknown to Trump, as she had been the most vocal of those speaking out against Trump's upside-down Bible photo op at St John's.

I do like how both the Episcopal and Roman Catholic churches have pretty radical priests installed...not that Trump is likely to return, especially once it's golfing season.

Besides being an important site on its own, there are schoolkids, some from highly placed families. So it's a small force, but legit.
