Canada preparing retaliatory tariffs to unveil as soon as Trump's inauguration day
Source: CBC
The Trudeau government is planning a first round of counter-tariffs that could be unveiled as soon as incoming U.S. president Donald Trump is sworn in on Monday, Radio-Canada has confirmed.
The counter-tariffs would apply to $37 billion in goods that would be less harmful to the Canadian economy.
Trump has threatened to levy a 25 per cent across-the-board tariff on Canadian goods. Experts and lawmakers have warned such a move would be devastating for the Canadian economy.
The Canadian government is also preparing additional retaliatory tariffs that would cover up to $110 billion, depending on the Trump administration's actions. Those could potentially be more damaging to the Canadian economy.

It is interesting to see how quickly Canada has responded to the Mango Mussolini this time 'round. They are not keeping their powder dry, it seems.

Jimmy Carter visited Canada as a USN Lieutenant (and nuclear engineer) in the 1950s to save a US-provided atomic power plant in Ontario. (He did not visit again as POTUS). See his story below.

What's the meaning of the phrase 'Keep your powder dry'?
Be prepared and save your resources until they are needed.
What's the origin of the phrase 'Keep your powder dry'?
The allusion is to gunpowder which soldiers had to keep dry in order to be ready to fight when required. This advice reputedly originated with Oliver Cromwell during his campaign in Ireland. In Ballads of Ireland, 1856, Edward Hayes wrote:
There is a well-authenticated anecdote of Cromwell. On a certain occasion, when his troops were about crossing a river to attack the enemy, he concluded an address, couched in the usual fanatic terms in use among them, with these words put your trust in God; but mind to keep your powder dry.

(1,586 posts)Why, WHY, WHY is no one willing to acknowledge the glaringly obvious, and irrefutable fact that everything Trump says or does is in service to Putin's psychotic obsession with destroying America from within? Republicans are overjoyed at the prospect, 'cause they're no different, and certainly no better, than Putin is. They WANT a dictatorial oligarchy!
Actually, I know why. Because if anyone acknowledged it, then they'd have to do something about it. God for-fucking-bid. On the day before the election, I heard someone who should know better say that sure, Trump is dangerous, but he's not a danger to democracy. I think he might wanna walk that one back a parsec or two.
This is a really high cliff we're barrel-assin' toward, and it's gonna get messy at the bottom.
