HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) Republican David McCormick has won Pennsylvanias pivotal U.S. Senate seat, as the former CEO of the worlds largest hedge fund beat three-term Democratic Sen. Bob Casey in Tuesdays election after accusing the incumbent of supporting policies that led to inflation, domestic turmoil and war.
The battleground state contest pads Republicans majority in the Senate, which they wrested from Democratic control this week. McCormick, 59, recaptured a GOP seat in Pennsylvania that Republicans lost in 2022, paying off a bet that party brass made when they urged McCormick to run and consolidated support behind him.
McCormick drew on contacts from across the worlds of government, politics and finance to secure backing for his campaign after he was CEO of the worlds largest hedge fund and served at the highest levels of former President George W. Bushs administration.
Beating Casey is earth-shaking for Pennsylvanias Democratic establishment. Casey is the namesake of a former two-term governor and Pennsylvanias longest-serving Democrat ever in the Senate. Until Tuesday, Casey had won six statewide general elections going back to 1996.

(4,576 posts)Surely theyll get something huge for their investment. McCormicks ads were full of negativity and lies. He fits in well with the majority of the new Senate. Casey cared about his constituents; McCormick will fly back and forth from his home in Connecticut.

(3,305 posts)There are probably at least 100,000 votes or more still outstanding in the provisionals and military/overseas ballots, and torn/damaged ballots that have yet to be added to the total. When things are this close, those votes count dearly and could shake up the results. In my little county alone, out of about 80 thousand voters there are over 1000 votes still outstanding.
