HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) Pennsylvanias Supreme Court on Monday upheld a lower court ruling that rejected a bid to get independent presidential candidate Cornel West on the ballot for the November election in the battleground state. The courts sided with the secretary of states office under Democratic Gov. Josh Shapiro in rejecting Wests candidacy paperwork.
The decision also sets in motion the process for counties to start printing, testing and sending out mail-in ballots to voters who requested one ahead of the Nov. 5 election. As soon as the court rules on that, well certify the official list and then counties can complete their preparations to mail out ballots and to have voters, if they choose, go to a county election office to apply in person, Secretary of State Al Schmidt said in an interview earlier Monday.
The court case had been among a raft of partisan legal maneuvering around third-party candidates, as backers of Republican nominee Donald Trump and Democratic nominee Kamala Harris had aimed to derail third-party candidates who might siphon away support or to help others who might hurt their opponent.
In an unsigned one-page order, the state Supreme Court said it had affirmed the lower Commonwealth Court decision. In it, the court had agreed with the Schmidts office that Wests campaign lacked the required affidavits for 14 of Wests 19 presidential electors.

(2,927 posts)Cornell West, RFK Jr., and Jill fucking Stein . What a bunch of egotistical glory hounds. Deliberately setting out to throw the election to tRump, so as to teach the Democrats a lesson.

And Stein
she should be prosecuted for being an unregistered agent of Poutine/Russia. If not that, can we try her for being the Kremlins useful idiot three elections in a row?
At least RFKs potential votes will (most likely) come out of Caligulas hide. His stunt backfired on him.

(137,794 posts)In 2016, 45 beat Clinton by 44,000 votes but in 2020, Biden beat 45 by over 81,000 votes. THAT is TWICE as much.
I.e., in 2020, this state wasn't as "close" as WI (20,682) or GA (11,779) or AZ (10,447).
It seems that no one calls 45's difference in 2016, "close", but Biden's is characterized as worse than "close".
And since Biden is supposedly "hated by everyone" according to the media, then how can Harris' outlook be even "closer"?
There are a lot of resources being pumped into the state so I think as long as that focus is sustained, the hope is that she can at least match or exceed what Biden was able to do in terms of turnout.
Biden's 2020 turnout here in Philly actually exceeded Obama's from 2008, which itself was historic.

2008
As a note, the Libertarian Party has a candidate on the PA ballot and that is actually the largest "3rd party" vote-getter and tends to pull from (R)s. Comrade Jill Stein also managed to make it on the ballot but she was outed back in 2016 (and torched after), so I don't think she will get anywhere near what she got in 2016.
