Ronald Reagan's former staff back Harris-Walz ticket: "Today is a choice between integrity and demagoguery."
Source: CBS News
Seventeen former staff members of the late Republican President Ronald Reagan are endorsing the Democratic nominee, Vice President Kamala Harris.
In a joint statement first obtained by CBS News, the staff members wrote that Reagan, if alive, would have supported Harris.
"President Ronald Reagan famously spoke about a 'Time for Choosing.' While he is not here to experience the current moment, we who worked for him in the White House, in the administration, in campaigns and on his personal staff, know he would join us in supporting the Harris-Walz ticket," the group writes. "The time for choosing we face today is a choice between integrity and demagoguery, and the choice must be Harris-Walz," the group added. "Our votes in this election are less about supporting the Democratic Party and more about our resounding support for democracy."
Over 230 former officials for Republican presidents George H.W. Bush and George W. Bush have also backed Harris, in addition to campaign staffers for Republican presidential nominees John McCain and Mitt Romney. Biden received a similar amount of GOP support in his 2020 run against Trump.

(34,738 posts)I predicted in the beginning of this year that a shit-ton of Repukes are going to decide they don't want Chump back in the White House. It's dangerous - and terrifying - to even think that he might get back there.
These are the staffers and advisers to Reagan, Bush Sr. and Bush Jr., even John McCain and Mitt Romney. They're not MAGAs. Even they can see that Chump can never be allowed back in the White House.
Thank goodness they have the courage to speak out as a group. It's going to make a difference ... the regular American Grandpa's and Grandma's are listening.
Thank you!

(6,599 posts)...in today's GOP. They took what he was, axed what they didn't like, and created a bunch of myths about him...sadly, some I even see here on DU repeated.
He was a flawed man (as is everyone), but today's GOP embraces those flaws and have turned them into dogma. Not as lessons to learn to do better. They created a cult of someone who wasn't and Trump took advantage. One of the main culprits, one of the most immoral people ever, Newt Gingrich. The GOP got more tenacious after Reagan, sure, but it was manageable. But it was Newt who set it on the path that it is on today. People in Congress would hash out a compromise at the bar, Newt put an end to it. Worse, no one is left around to guide anyone on how to go about compromise.
