JD Vance shares post about immigrants cooking pets in Dayton, Ohio; city refutes it

A new video shared by Republican vice-presidential nominee and Ohio Sen. JD Vance is continuing to fuel rumors about migrants abducting and eating pets in the state. However, this time it says it's happening in Dayton, about 30 miles from Springfield. Springfield has been at the center of the immigration debate due to unproven claims that Haitian immigrants are killing pets.

A video of cats walking around a grill in a back yard posted Saturday by conservative activist Christopher F. Rufo was retweeted by Vance. Rufo is known for initiating the adversarial movement against critical race theory. Vance and other Republican influencers spread rumors earlier this week about Haitian migrants in Springfield eating pets.

"Kamala Harris and her media apparatchiks should be ashamed of themselves. Another 'debunked' story that turned out to have merit," Vance posted. In the caption of Rufo's post, he claims the video is proof of migrants barbecuing and eating cats in Ohio. However, Dayton Mayor Jeffrey Mims said in a statement Saturday afternoon that the claims are "baseless."

"This claim is totally false and dangerously irresponsible of politicians aiming to sow division and fear. There has been absolutely zero reports of this type of activity and spreading such misinformation undermines our status as a welcoming city," Mims said in his statement. "The city of Dayton stands by its immigrant and refugee community and we value all of their contributions to our city's vibrant culture and economy. We will remain committed to creating an inclusive environment for all Dayton residents."

Of all the cities in Ohio, Dayton is probably the most conservative. That corner of Ohio is red, with a lot of military. I don't know if they think this message will resonate more strongly there or if they just had to move the lies about Springfield to a nearby city. And in one of the criminal cases (NY state), the convictions HAVE HAPPENED.

I.e., the assertions that have been made is that no one is doing anything and that is not true. There ARE people ATTEMPTING to follow the rule of law but as you noted, the SCOTUS has been throwing wrenches into "the process". However "the process" is still moving, as slowly as it might seem.

(as a side note, a typical court case that actually makes it as far as the SCOTUS and is accepted by them, typically takes about 7 years to get there)

I'm trying very hard not to scream bloody murder about Garland. The minute that idiot stepped out of the White House, he should have been detained while the boxes of everything being stuffed into vans should have been searched right then and there. Next, he should have been taken to the nearest police department, handcuffed, fingerprinted, mug shot, and thrown into prison to await sentencing on crimes of treason, theft, and inciting a riot against the United States Government.

Instead, everybody is treating the crook with kid gloves while he runs away with our country. Never have I wished so hard for something terrible to happen to someone who so richly deserves it. Every one of them is a rescue. Every one of them is neutered. Two are geriatric old queens (16 years old). I don't find this racist moron's initial post triggering, I find it ludicrous. He obviously has never been around cats, or he would get that cats do all kinds of things like this. Yes, my older tomcat actually snoozed on my grill while it was open earlier in the summer. Were we going to cook him? Of course not. Cats go where they want, when they want. My younger tom, for example, will jump into the fridge when it's open when we put away groceries. We have to check before we close it that he's not still in there. My youngest queen will hop into the dishwasher when I'm loading the upper rack. I could go on.

Some years ago in another house, we were remodeling the kitchen. We bought a whole new sink and cabinet, and had a friend over to help put it in correctly. There was a small hole in the wall that no one thought anything about.

I'd gone to bed about 11pm, and noticed my main "sleeping" cat hadn't come to bed yet. I didn't "feel" him... like he wasn't anywhere close. I laid there a few more minutes, sending out waves of energy trying to find him when I heard this far off "mewl, meow!" I got up and started calling his name, so he'd keep calling out to me. Sure enough, the sound led us to the wall behind the sink!

Hubby got so upset and jittery, he couldn't do much of anything. I went around the corner to the friend's house (it was now about 2am), knocked on the door and when he came I said, 'I need your help! You walled up my cat behind the sink!" He immediately got dressed and helped hubby rescue said cat. Kuma was VERY happy to be in bed with me that evening! But as long as I live, I'll never forget the look on my friend's face when I told him what had happened... and he could tell I was panicky. BTW, I've got nine right now, several of them are in their senior years now. I've lost several over the last few years due to advanced age (20+) and everyone of them is a stinker in their own right!

I even have one who makes a beeline for backdoor and tries to get out. When he does he goes straight for tree... about 6' up. From there, he hangs on and yowls for "mama" to come get him. So, since I'm the only one who can hold him without coming away scarred, I have to go out there and get him down from the tree and bring him in. He's a huge Norwegian... and the biggest scaredy cat alive!

What would we do without them in our lives? I never want to find out... (sigh)

we were raising animals to be slaughtered and eaten. Best you could do was give them a good life and we did.
Lots of pastures and good food and dry barns. They roamed free. Dairy cattle aren't afforded that luxury and then they get eaten when they don't produce
enough. We are what we are.
