Two hospitals in Springfield, Ohio, were sent into lockdown after bomb threats, police said Saturday, marking the fourth such case in as many days that appears linked to false claims circulating among the far right that Haitian immigrants there are eating domestic pets and wildlife.
Saturdays threats came even after the woman who started the rumors acknowledged to NBC News that they were unfounded and publicly apologized.
Kettering Health Springfield was one of the medical facilities targeted, with officials later saying they found nothing suspicious during a search. Another hospital, Mercy Healths Springfield regional medical center, received a similar threat.

(10,773 posts)This is a strategy to get us talking about the latest crazy thing he did, whatever urban legend he amplifies. Right now, its about people eating cats or geese or whatever because he cannot afford for us to be talking about his record, he added.
On Tuesday, Trump amplified the claim to over 67 million people who watched the debate between him and Vice President Kamala Harris.
The former president took the lie on the road to an Arizona rally on Thursday.
Buttigieg told Collins that Trump doesnt want Americans to discuss political issues including how he demolished the right to choose in the U.S. during his administration.
The last thing he wants us to do is to talk about his record or his agenda so what he wants us talking about is whatever crazy nonsense he can thrust into the center of the internet and the media conversation, said Buttigieg, who said the distraction technique isnt harmless.

Roy Cohn taught him well.

Tyrnauer and Zirin remind viewers and readers that Cohn imparted an M.O. thats been on searing display throughout Trumps ascent, his divisive, captivating campaign, and his fraught, unprecedented presidency. Deflect and distract, never give in, never admit fault, lie and attack, lie and attack, publicity no matter what, win no matter what, all underpinned by a deep, prove-me-wrong belief in the power of chaos and fear.
Trump was Cohns most insatiable student and beneficiary. He didnt just educate Trump, he didnt just teach Trump, he put Trump in with people who would make Trump, Marcus, his cousin, told me. Roy gave him the tools. All the tools.

The old guard may have screwed the Russians and deflected the Nazis but now(whatever the verbal attacks against Trump himself) they are still joined hip and thigh to the new caretakers of thievery. As in all previous campaigns, all GOP state machine have been busy subverting usually by declaring a non-existent Democratic party fraud. Unlike Biden he ha been grafted into this machine.

Far too often they have "won" elections at many levels by suppression, manipulation, and outright fraud.
We need to take care as we declare our elections free of meaningful fraud. What we need to be talking more about is the corruption on the right.
I also feel incredible anger and sadness when people point to Gore's capitulation to the traitorous Bush v. Gore decision as an example of leadership and respect for law. It was anything but. Breyer's decent instructed true leaders on next steps when he pointed out that SCOTUS had no place in the process; that the only thing Bush v. Gore accomplished was rendering the election in Florida incomplete under Florida law and therefore unlawful. It was then up to Congress to carry out its duty and judge the legality of the Florida electors, with the only rational conclusion being to throw them out. Whatever the chances, it was up to anyone who cared about our democracy to stand up and demand Congress carry out it's duty to protect the nation against a corrupted state election -- whether the source be corrupt application of "rules" or a corrupt court.
